Ch. 7

Running After Something You'll Never Kill

Gerard's POV

Watching the gates of the school being closed and locked isn't a pleasant sight. It's like watching an animal being put into a cage.

There's no way out. Can't climb it, can't break the lock, can't slip through the bars either.

It's a tall green-painted gate with rectangular bars about the width of my wrist.

Jesus Christ, we're on 8 hour lockdown 5 days a week. You'd think they'd at least have open campus at lunch or something.

I look around for Cara but don't see her in the sea of faces. I shrug and head to my first class.

I'm wearing the same clothes as yesterday because I slept in them. Nobody'll notice, I suppose. They don't know I exist anyway.

My thoughts are interrupted by someone pulling me into the locker room I was walking next to.

"What the hell?!" I say regaining my footing.

"Quiet!!" Frank says drawing a finger to his lips.

He doesn't look very prepared like he usually does. His hair's a mess, his shirt is only buttoned-up halfway, and his tie is loose around his neck.

I'm gonna just pretend that doesn't turn me on.

His eyes are dark and tired, he looks like he didn't get much sleep.

"What are you doing?! I'm gonna be late to class-"

He raises an eyebrow.

"Do you really care about that?"

"..."

"Exactly. Follow me."

He grabs me by my arm and leads me through the maze of orange lockers.

He sets down a large book on the floor and steps onto it. He opens up a small square window and props it open with a pencil.

He pulls himself up and out.

"..Frank?!"

"Toss me the book!" He says from the other side of the wall.

I pick the book up and carefully hold it out of the window until he grabs it.

"Now you."

"I can't fit through there. Wait, where are we going?"

"Just do it."

I reluctantly grab one of the walls of the window and pull myself up.

"Now out.." He says motioning towards the dirt below me.

I breathe deeply and wiggle my way out of the window, falling onto my side. The drop was only like 2 feet, but it still really hurt. I stand up and brush the dirt off of me.

The locker room was built next to a hill, so it's kind of underground.

Frank grabs the pencil and un-props the window, removing the evidence we were there.

"'No way to escape school' my ass." He says smiling deviantly and pulling me towards the road away from school.

He starts running causing my arm to ache at the shoulder.

"Slow down!!"

"Nope."

After a few blocks of running he whips me around a corner onto a street I've never seen before.
