"You're a lucky bitch you know that." The words drip as sourly as the blood that streams from the fresh wound in Abs forehead. "I haven't heard a scream from you yet."

Cassie scratched at the newly formed scars that laced her arms. They had been superficial, portions of her flesh shaved off in thin strips. Heat ran up and down the skin, raised scaring was visible where it had tried to heal.   Nothing ever seemed to soothe the pain.  As soon as the skin started to repair itself, it was ripped apart again.  The only solace was the coldness of the cell.  Sometimes she was desperate to feel the cool stone wall on her skin, however, the harsh surface was too much for her to bear.

"I won't give him the satisfaction," Cassie whispered into her chest. She felt helpless down here. Her control stripped away as he tied her down to the table and drugged her just enough to keep her on the verge of consciousness.

Abs let out a guttural laughter at Cassie's response. Even though she only had two people to keep her company in this place, Cassie had quickly grown to dislike Abs.   There was something about her that made Cassie wary.  But maybe she was being unfair, perhaps being here this long had changed her.

"Why do you always have to be like that?" Cassie could care less what Abs would think of her, it was not like she could get out of her cage and attack her. Even if she could, judging by the wailing she had just done earlier when she was taken to the other room, she would not have much fight left in her.

"Don't mind Abs, she used to be a little nicer. I think she might be losing it." Ricci chimed in, her chest rattling cough finishing off her sentence.

"Hey - I'm right here!" Abs retorted.

"Am I wrong?" Ricci's question had a playful air to it, cutting the growing tension between the three girls.

"Naw, you are pretty dead on. But if I am self-aware of my mental state does that mean I am not really losing it - right?" Abs laughed. It still sent a chill down Cassie's spine even though the trace of malice was gone.

It was hard to determine how long they had been there but Cassie had figured it was roughly a week. Every so often the candles would burn out and he would come around lighting them. Cassie had done her best to figure out how long they lasted and she had figured about six hours. After he had changed the candles about twenty-five times, Cassie stopped giving hope that she would be rescued.

She wondered how long it had taken before Abs had given up hope.

"Sorry Cassie, I am not laughing at you, just your logic."

"I don't understand," Cassie was confused. Not giving him the satisfaction of screaming was the only power she had, one she would not easily surrender.

"Sarah thought that if she did everything he asked it would spare her life. She was the first to go. She lasted less than twenty-four hours." Abs cut her story short and started humming. Cassie could imagine her rocking herself in her cell, legs pulled into her chest humming that haunting melody as she went backward and forwards.  As she continued with the awkward song that escaped her lips.  It had an eery tone and Cassie wished she would stop and all she could do was bit her tongue in irritation.

"Reese had a lot of fight. It only got him more excited. He tortured her more often and longer. There was barely any flesh...He dropped her unconscious back in her hole all the time...The only reason he stopped was that her body gave up. She had lost her fight after a couple of days, but he kept pushing her, trying to get it back..." The memory caused Ricci to start to sob.

"Gigi killed herself. Tore open her own wrists with her teeth. Smart actually considering the alternative." Abs had picked back up where Ricci had left off.

Cassie started to understand why Abs had laughed at her earlier. It did not seem to matter what they did, it was not going to stop him from what he was doing. His purpose and rationale were beyond them.

Abs started humming again. Cassie let out a big sigh as her thoughts escaped her mouth of their own accord. "How many girls have been here?"

"Since I have been here?"

Cassie nodded at Abs question. Even though they could not see each other.  Abs appeared to sense her and answered. "Eight."

Cass shuddered as a further question formed in her head that she dared not ask.

"Yes," said Abs, "they are all dead."

"Did you have to?" Ricci hissed.

"I just answered the question. There's no point beating around the bush. We're all gonna die here or die trying to get out. Let's face it, he's got the upper hand. We're scuppered." Abi retorted almost with a weird sense of satisfaction.

"You're bloody weird.  Do you know that Abs! Just shut the fuck up. You're not helping," Ricci screamed into the darkness, her throaty hoarseness filling their ears.

"He's not gonna win. I won't let him," the words trailed out as a mutter.  A promise that Cassie made to herself.  She would be stronger than the other girls that had come before her.

"You and whose army is gonna save you, darling?  I haven't seen your prince charming come to the rescue with cavalry in hot pursuit." Abs spit out the last words out, and an eery laugh followed, echoing around their cells.

Cassie gasped, as she tried to contain the tears that wanted to fall.

"Stop being a bitch Abs. What did Cassie ever do to you," shouted Ricci.

But Abs didn't answer. A rumble of an engine could be heard followed by the heavy fall of footsteps.

"Cassie. Don't let Abs get to you. Now try and be quiet. I think he's back."

The girls huddled in their cells.  Wondering what hell he would inflict on them next.
