Chapter 3

"Please tell me you're joking," A voice from behind me broke through the silence after the announcement. I turned around to see Reyna standing there, eyes wide with fear. I stood and she turned to leave. I ran after her and finally caught up to her, opening the door to the bathroom next to us and shoved her in. Closing and locking the door behind me, I blocked her exit.

"You can't tell anyone," I told her, "Not mom, not dad, not Michael, not anyone."

She shook her head, "How could you hide this?"

My eyes were watering already, "I only just found out!"

"You told your friends, before you told your own sister," She spoke, venom and betrayal in her words.

I slid my back down the door and looked up at her, "I was scared. I am scared, I can't even admit it out loud."

"Admit what? That our pack's number one enemy is your mate?" She spat.

Tears flowed freely and I groaned, slamming my head against the door, "Rey I don't know what to do."

My sister had tears of her own now, "And you think I do?"

"You're my big sister!" I exclaim, "You're supposed to help me with these things."

I let out a ragged sob and Reyna knelt down and sat against the wooden door, next to me, "This is so screwed up."

"Tell me about it," I let out a bitter laugh.

She sighed, "Ar, we have to tell mom and dad."

"No!"

"Arleigh!" She put both hands on my shoulders, "We have to."

I knew that. Of course I had to tell them. I pleaded with her, "Just give me a day. I promise I'll tell them, just give me one day-- until tomorrow."

Her shoulders dropped in surrender, "Alright. Fine."

"Thank you," I whispered and she pulled me into a hug.

"Arleigh? Reyna?" A voice from in the hall whispered harshly. We stood and I opened the door, revealing Blake in the hallway.

I smiled, "Hey."

"Everything good?" She asked.

We nodded.

Blake nodded, "Well it's time for dinner."

"Alright, thanks," I told her and the three of us walked down the stairs and into the massive dining room together. Normally, we didn't eat together, but since the Alpha is here, everyone in the pack house was requested to eat altogether. If you ask me, that's a dumb rule. But of course, I'd never say that thought out loud.

I sat down across from my sister near the head of the table, the seat on my left empty, and dad at the actual head of the table. The seat next to me was empty because Reyna and I's brother, her twin, was away traveling the world and getting to know some of the packs before he became alpha when he takes over for dad.

The food was served and everyone began digging in. I moaned in delight as I shoveled in more and more lasagna. It was my favorite, after all!

In the middle of dinner, when it was silent except for the sounds of everyone chewing, the doorbell rang and immediately all the lights went out. This was a lockdown percaution, no doubt.

My father stood and everyone at the table scattered, undoubtedly to their post of duty for situations like this.

Reyna, mom and I followed dad into the conference room and he pulled up the video feed to see who was at the front door. When the image showed up, I smiled and ran out of the room, undoing all the fancy bolts at the front door.
