Chapter 6

It was cold and barren around me, even though it felt like I was atop a cloud of fuzziness. Peeling open my eyes, it took several blinks to comprehend where I was. Hayden was nowhere to be found in his room, so I sat up and pushed the covers off of me. Walking into his bathroom, I sighed at my reflection. My curly hair was messed up and I hated that I didn't have any makeup on. Huffing, I made my way down the steps and to the kitchen, which I had been shown yesterday.

When I walked in, I found Olivia at the counter, trying to pour milk into a bowl of cereal, but failing.

"Hey," I spoke up and she jumped. I chuckled, "How about I make us something for breakfast?"

She nodded excitedly, "Okay!"

Smiling, I opened up the fridge and cupboards, trying to decide what to make. Grabbing eggs, milk, bread and cinnamon, I started to make french toast.

Twenty minutes later, we were eating at the table and I was laughing at how big of bites Olivia was taking. She was shoveling it in all at once, as if she'd never get enough.

"Haven't you ever had french toast before?" I asked her. She shook her head no and my eyes bulged. "What? It's only the best breakfast ever!"

She hummed in agreement.

Our laughter was cut off by the kitchen door opening and Hayden storming in. He didn't even glance at us, just stormed through and exited out the other door. I rolled my eyes at his back.

He was like a teenage girl on her period.

"Good morning, ladies," Gemma cooed, walking into the kitchen. I gave her a wave, my mouth full of food and Olivia waved energetically.

Swallowing down the food, I finally greeted her, "Hey, Gem. Mind if I raid your closet again, today?"

"Not at all," She said, pouring herself a steaming cup of coffee, "I'll see if I can take you shopping today for some clothes of your own."

I smiled. I hadn't even been here a whole twenty-four hours and I couldn't wait to get out, "Sounds great."

"Can I come?" Olivia pleaded.

Gemma sighed and shook her head disdainfully, "Liv, you know the rules."

"But they're not fair!" She exclaimed and I couldn't help but agree with her. Of course, I didn't show it. She continued to pout, "I want to go shopping! I never get to do anything!"

"Olivia," Gemma warned her.

Getting up from her chair, she screamed at Gemma before running away, "You're not my mother!"

I heard a door slam upstairs and guessed it was her bedroom door.

"Gemma!" I heard Hayden shout her name from his office. She swore lowly, gave me a sheepish look, then hurried out of the room. Silently creeping, I followed behind her at a safe distance. She walked in the room, closing the door behind her. Pressing my ear to it, I listened to their conversation, "Why the hell is Olivia throwing a temper tantrum?"

"Because I told her she wasn't allowed to go shopping," Gemma answered in a steady, flat, emotionless voice.

His voice was calculating, "And how did the idea of shopping get in her head?"

Her voice was slightly more nervous now, "I was talking to Arleigh about going shopping, because she doesn't have any clothes. I was going to ask your permission to take her."

Hayden grunted, "She's not leaving this house. The same rules that apply to Olivia apply to her. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Alpha," She answered.
