CHAPTER 8

Hayden raised his eyebrows at me, "Interesting wardrobe choice, considering we just went shopping."

"I f-forgot t-to grab s-some clothes," I stammered, my face heating up. He gave me a lazy smirk and stood, walking over and slowly backing me into the wall.

When he stood mere inches away, his smirk grew, "Do I make you nervous, Arleigh?"

"No," and it was the truth. He didn't make me nervous; he terrified me and attracted me and hurt me and made me feel good all at once.

Cocking an eyebrow, he inched forward, his lips centimeters away from mine. Lowly, he whispered, "Are you sure?"

Not trusting my voice, I nodded slowly without breaking eye contact. Taking a step back, he gestured towards the closet with his head, "I put your clothes away for you."

Blushing when I realized he probably saw he underwear Gemma had made me buy, I nodded and calmly walked into the closet, shutting the door behind me. Flicking the light on, I stared wide eyed at the room before me. It was a huge closet-- and I mean huge! Well, as closets go it was huge.

Making my way over to one of the drawers, I pulled it open and found the comfy clothes. Rejoicing, I changed into them before stepping back out into the room.

Hayden frowned, "I like you better without clothes."

"Perv!" I snap and he chuckled lowly, giving me a cocky wink.

"A guy can try, sweetheart."

Deciding not to respond to that, I climbed into bed with him and in a fluid motion, pulled the blanket from him and wrapped myself up in a cocoon of blankets.

Behind me, he cleared his throat, "You know your supposed to share the blanket, right?"

"I don't do sharing," I simply stated back to him.

"Obviously," he muttered and suddenly I felt hands wrap around my waist. He rolled me over, grabbed the blanket and flipped me out and onto the floor. Groaning, I rubbed my butt. He grinned sheepishly, "Sorry?"

"You," I pointed at him, "suck."

Crawling back once again, I only took 2/3 of the covers before drifting off to a dream-filled slumber.

I dreamt of dark shapes, seeming to look like men, though the second my brain formed a thought the lines would blur. There was a red liquid running freely, dripping off of everything. Blood. In the middle of it came the only comprehensible thing in it, though it didn't completely make sense. In the middle of the shapes and gore is where I stood, and I was covered in the substance of life.

Snapping my eyes open, I sprung forward and took in a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart.

"What's wrong?" A voice from across the room spoke up and I jumped, letting out a squeal of surprise.

Hayden stood in the doorway of the bathroom, a toothbrush in his hand and toothpaste painting the edges of his lips.

I shook my head, "Nothing-- just a nightmare."

He nodded but looked like he didn't believe me before walking back into the bathroom.

When he finally left the room altogether, I slipped out of bed and hopped in the shower as if to try and wash off the dream but it didn't work. The images were engraved into my brain. Making a sound of frustration, I shut off the water and stepped out with a towel wrapped around my body. Thankfully, the coast was clear and I was free to change into light blue skinny jeans and a loose black v-neck. Leaving my hair down and wavy, I skipped down the steps and into the kitchen, almost running into a very tall man who looked to be about 19 years of age.

"Who are you?" He demanded gruffly and I stared up at him in shock. How was he so tall? His eyes narrowed, "Did you hear me? Who are you?"

I shot the same question back, finally snapping out of my trance.

"That's none of your business until you tell me who you are," The tall person in front of me replied. "What is your name?"

Folding my arms over my chest, I knew I was probably challenging him, "Why should I tell you?"

"Because," he growled, "you will not--"

"Chad!" A voice from behind me barked and I jumped before relaxing. It was just Hayden, "What are you doing to Arleigh?"

Looking down, I realized only now that he had taken my arm into a tight grip. Yanking it away, I backed into Hayden who instinctively wrapped his arms around me.

Chad however looked very confused, "Who's Arleigh?"

"My mate," Hayden ground out and, if anyone asked I'd deny it, it sounded so sexy when he said it.

Chad paled and bowed his head in respect, "I'm so sorry, Alpha Hayden, I didn't know."

"Of course you didn't know!" Hayden shouted with an edge, making me flinch. "You only f*cking grabbed her and probably hurt her!" His eyes turned dangerously black. "I'm gonna kill you."

Spinning around, I placed my hands on his chest and pushed, but he didn't even budge, "Hayden! Hayden, look at me!"

He stared right on over my head at Chad who was no doubt whimpering right now.

Lifting up my hand, I was about to smack him when I stopped. His wolf was taking over-- if I hurt him, he wouldn't register I'm his mate. He'd just kill me before Chad. Lowering it, I tried to think of how to stop him.

Hayden took a step forward and I went backwards. Pleading, I placed my hands on his chest and tried to ignore the tingling sensation I felt. I tried I ignore the fact that I could feel so much muscle through his shirt, "Hayden, please."

I was practically wedged between the two and making a last minute decision I wrapped my hands around his neck and pulled his face down, trapping his lips in mine. After a half moment of shock, he kissed back, firmly placing his hands on my hips.

And, oh, the fireworks I was feeling right now. I was on top of the world, floating on cloud nine and then reality kicked me in the ass.

Pulling away from him, I was breathing heavily and so was he. Our foreheads were resting together and when I backed away, he opened his eyes which were no longer black. I let out a sigh of relief.

"Chad I think you should go," I addressed the man still standing there and he nodded before running out of the room.

Hayden wore a lazy smile on his face, "You kissed me."

"So you wouldn't kill Chad," I nodded and just like that, his face dropped.

"Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" He asked frantically, checking my arms and head.

"I'm fine," I insisted. "Though I'd like to know who exactly Chad is."

"Chad Michaels, my Beta," he answered.

I nodded, "Then it's very good I didn't let you kill him."

He just shrugged.

"What's wrong?" I queried.

Hayden sighed, "It's just-- our first kiss and it was just to calm me down."

"Trust me, it's not exactly how I planned to have my first kiss," I responded.

He froze, blinked a few times and asked, "That was your first kiss?"

Blushing, I nodded.

"That won't do, then," He spoke with a smirk before pulling me in and planting his lips on mine. Grabbing just under my butt, he lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist, my hands tangled in his hair.

I shouldn't be doing this-- I know-- but it just felt so wrong and right and good all at the same time.
