Chapter 14
"We need to go to training and go over defensive and offensive maneuvers," Hayden is still spouting out orders to Chad, "Every member of the pack must meet at the training grounds in thirty minutes, do I make myself clear?"
Chad nodded, "Yes, Alpha."
Hayden took in a deep breath, running his hand along his jaw in stress, "Wait! Tell Gemma she's excused and that she needs to stay here with Olivia. When the fighting starts, Gemma will stay in the house and Olivia, just Olivia, will be down in the panic room."
"Yes, Alpha," Chad repeats before leaving the house, probably to make the announcement to the rest of the pack about what was going on.
"Arleigh," Hayden continued, "I need you to get ready for training as well, I can't leave you unprepared for this."
Was he seriously ordering me around right now? Rolling my eyes, I stood up from my spot and walked back upstairs and into his room, opening up the closet door and grabbing a pair of athletic shorts and a solid black tank top. Slipping on tennis shoes, I threw my hair into a ponytail and made my way back downstairs.
"I'm ready to go," I speak my first words since the announcement that stated my family and friends were coming to attack us.
He stares at me, jaw slightly unhinged, for five seconds before he closes it and shakes his head, "No, absolutely not, that's too revealing."
"Well someone didn't give me time to pack training outfits before I came here," I shot at him and sat down right across from him again.
Groaning, he ran a hand down his face and shook his head, looking back up at me, "Arleigh, you don't understand how appealing that makes you look. Every un-mated male will be drooling over you and I don't think that I can control my wolf."
Leaning in, my elbows on my knees, I gave him a sickly sweet smile, "You needed work on your control skills anyways."
Shock is evident on his face and I stand up feeling very accomplished. With a small growl, he stands up, "Fine, now let's go."
With a smirk of victory, I follow him to the car and slide in. He starts the car roughly and speeds down small side roads until we pull to a stop next to what looks like abandoned soccer fields.
"Welcome to the Black Shadow Pack's training grounds," Hayden said without any emotion before clambering out of the car. I didn't get a chance to even place my hand on the door handle when Hayden opened the door for me. Mumbling a 'thank you', I followed close behind him to the large group of people that stood in the field.
There were at least five hundred.
They all straightened at the sight of Hayden's arrival and I immediately felt like I had walked into a military training boot camp.
He nodded in acknowledgement to them, "Thank you for coming on such short notice. In case you were not informed, the Blood Dawn Pack has openly declared war on us. We are here to work on defending our territory and our friends and family. We will not let them bring us down! Now who is ready to fight with me?"
In unison, every werewolf out in the crowd raised their hands.
Hayden stared at them in pride, "Let's start training, then."
They all dispersed and I turned to Hayden, who was already looking at me, "You don't have to fight anyone yet, you can start with--"
"I'll fight," I interrupted him, cracking my knuckles.
"I should've known that's what you would say," He mutters, shaking his head in dismay. "Alright, why don't you fight Sarah? She's the red-head over there, with the pink shirt?"
