Unwelcomed Memories

The looks continued on through the day I even got them from the teachers. Whoever said teachers were your friends and you can bring any problem to them, were wrong. My teachers hated me for my difference in looks and always keeping to myself. I never opened up to anyone, not even my parents.

One day I had forgotten about my bruises and took off my hoodie in class. Mrs. Frankes stared at my arms but had a disgusted look on her face as if I had done it to myself. I threw my hoodie on and walked from the class flipping her off along with the rest of the class.

Everyone considered me a child of Satan and made me an outcast. I didn't mind being an outcast or people running from me like I would spite them to hell but the looks I could deal without. Another time I was sitting outside in my usual place which was just the school garden. I sat up in the tree when a rock hit me in the head, making me fall to the ground. Savannah, Adrian and Payne were standing about 5 feet away laughing as hard as they could.

~ ~Flash Back~~

"I can't believe he fell!" Savannah laughed as she leaned on Payne.

"Vannah... that was really mean." Adrian said as his laughed subsided and I sat up rubbing the back of my head and wincing at the pain that now radiated from my leg. Both Payne and Savannah looked at him as if he had just told them he was the spawn of Satan.

"Well I had my fun. I'm going to the mall, you guys in?" Adrian shook his head and Payne sighed loudly.

"I'm coming Vannah." Payne waved at Adrian and walked away with Savannah.

"Dude are you ok?" he extended his hand to me and I pushed it away. "Dude what's your problem?"

"What's my problem? You just threw a rock at me and now you're trying to be my friend? Last time I checked that's not how it works!" I stood up and almost fell back down; the pain was too much.

"Listen... It was Savannah's idea, not mine. I just-"

"You just, what? You tagged along, you didn't stop her, so you must have enjoyed yourself." I turned and limped to the school, anger burning through my veins. Maybe I was the son of Satan...

"Just let me apologize. I made a big mistake. I can understand if you don't want to be my friend but I want to be yours. I always see you by yourself and no one here talks to you... just about you... At least let me be around to talk to you." I looked at him like he was a psychopath but hell, what could it hurt. If people already talked about me then why not give them something more to talk about. Adrian was pretty popular and if he was seen talking to me it would raise quite a bit of havoc. I smiled to myself and nodded at him.

"I guess it couldn't hurt." I sighed and rubbed my head again. "How did you get to be friends with Savannah? She isn't an easy one to be liked by." I began to feel a little tipsy so I sat down in the grass and pulled my hood down allowing the breeze to hit my face.

"I started dating Payne, who was and still is constantly at Savannahs side. Savannah despised me at first but the longer I dated Payne and treated her well, the more Savannah opened up to me. It's taken me 2 years to get this far and lately she hasn't been the same. I think something is going on with her parents and it is making her act up." I shifted my sight over to him and watched him look up into the sky. I sat there and continued watching him. Adrian seemed like he was in his own world and would never return until he chuckled and smiled before looking over at my confused face.

"What's the look for?" he stuck his tongue out and smiled wider before laying back into the grass.

"Can I ask you a question?" He looked over at me, and nodded. "What did you see when you were staring up there?" The confusion spread across his face quickly as he tried to think about what I was asking him.

"What do you mean?"

"You sat here for 15 minutes just looking up at the sky. When you came to you chuckled and were smiling from ear to ear. What did you see?" He sat up and bit at the end of his thumb, trying to remember what he had just seen and suddenly snapped his fingers.

"I was remembering some really funny and random moments I have had with Payne, Savannah and a few other people. We had some really great times before Payne's father was diagnosed with cancer and she had to stay home and take care of him. The group just didn't feel... right..." He bit his lip and lowered his head, looking at the grass as I played with my lip ring.

"I'm sorry. It had to be tough for her. Most of the time I wish my parents would die slow painful deaths for what they have done but the other times I have sympathy for them... Their lives weren't great growing up either so I can't blame them for not being raised right but that is no reason to beat your own child." I fell silent as I clenched my fists so hard they were white. Adrian and I talked casually for the rest of the evening until the sun set and he had to leave and head home.

~~End Flash back~~

I sighed at the memories that flooded in today. They were unwelcomed but that hadn't seemed to stop them from making their way into my troubled mind.
