1 week later...
Lauren rubbed her exhausted face as she leant against the kitchen counter, a mug of tea cooling in front of her. Willa threw up again and was running a fever. Nothing too high, but warm enough to scare Lauren into staying awake until it dropped. She sat on the child's bed and held cool cloths to her neck, forehead, and chest, hoping to reduce her fever. Finally, after three hours, Willa's fever broke and Lauren decided it was okay to leave her alone for a while.
It was 7am and she knew she should try to sleep, but her thoughts were too busy keeping her up. She was worried about her daughter's speech and if she had epilepsy thanks to the meningitis. Willa didn't experience any seizures that made her convulse, but she had passed out a handful of times, something Dr. Morp explained could be a form of seizure. As for her speech, she was saying only one-word responses, but something told Lauren there was more damage than Willa was letting them see.
On top of all this, Lauren had to worry about Normani because her best friend no longer looked at her the same way and it was starting to hurt more than it did bother her. Things were getting a bit better considering Normani stopped taking her meals to her room (whether or not that was due to Ally demanding that she sit at the table because she was tired of cleaning old dishes from the woman's desk). But she hadn't uttered two words to Lauren, and always avoided looking her direction. Lauren didn't know how to fix this. Does she say sorry? For what, though? Having sex? Normani wasn't her girlfriend; she made it clear she never wanted them to be like that, so why was the thought of Lauren being with other people so hard for the woman to accept?
As Lauren reached to grab her tea her phone beside her buzzed, a message popping up from Ashley.
[Ashely]: Hey, how's Willa?
Lauren cocked her eyebrow, confused why her friend was up so early, but nevertheless, she grabbed her phone and typed back a response.
[Lauren]: Thanks for checking up. She's okay. Still nauseous and her fever keeps coming back but she's getting better slowly. Why're you up so early, anyways?
The Latina sipped her tea and hummed softly before her phone vibrated again.
[Ashley]: I've got a rehearsal and someone asked me about you and I thought I should check up on Willa and stuff.
Ya know, be a good friend or whatever.
Lauren laughed lightly, her smile faltering when Ashley sent another text.
[Ashely]: Btw, how're things with Normani?
Fuck. Lauren knew that Ashley was good with giving advice, but something told her that a 7am, probably coffee drunk, Ashley Frangipane, was going to stick some crazy idea in her head of what she should do regarding her relationship issues. And Lauren, being the idiot she is, would probably follow through with the advice, because she trusted Ashley, even the 7am, coffee drunk side of her.
[Lauren]: Still icing me out. Idk what's her deal about you and I having sex but it's ridiculous. She said we would never work.
[Ashley:] Don't be stupid Lauren. She's mad because she lied when she said that and now regrets saying it.
[Lauren:] that makes no sense though. I mean, I didn't even mean she was jealous about you and I. I meant that she was jealous about you and Willa. She just instantly assumed I was talking about us and said that we would never work. that we were nothing.
[Ashley:] ya, but you didn't say what you felt about her. You left her hanging. Maybe she felt like she was going to be like Camila 2.0.
