After two weeks of recovering the 5H family was back at their usual antics. Willa's words were coming much easier to her, and she willingly held conversations now that she was sounding like her old self. She only grows frustrated when she fumbles with her speech due to sleepiness, stress, or fear. Despite the discouragement, the slight stutter that remained acted as a helpful indicator to Lauren so she knew when her little one was losing her cool. Excessive stuttering meant Willa needed a breather (or a nap). As soon as that break was taken the child was calmly able to solve problems and seek help if needed.
It was a relatively calm day in the house. It had rained overnight and there was a storm warning for the evening, but right now the five members were enjoying their quiet time. After lunch Lauren noticed Willa was getting slightly restless, however. Usually the sunny LA weather meant that she could go out in the yard with the dogs, or play with her chalk on the driveway, but today she was trapped indoors. There were only so many Disney movies that could placate a restless five-year-old.
"Hey guys, I'm going grocery shopping, anyone want to come?" Normani asked as she grabbed the list from the fridge and looked to the kitchen table where Ally, Dinah, and Lauren sat lost in their own worlds.
"Can I go, Mani?" A little voice asked, Willa walking in from the living room and looking to her aunt hopefully.
"Did you finish writing your letters?" Normani asked, trying not to show how surprised she was that Willa asked to go out somewhere without Lauren.
"Mhmm," Willa agreed, showing the sheet to the woman who smiled at it proudly.
"Well, it looks perfect, so I don't see why you can't join me. Just ask your mama."
"Mama, can I go to the store with Mani?" Willa asked, walking to Lauren with her arms in the air, asking to be lifted up into an embrace.
Lauren laughed lightly and pulled Willa into her arms, pressing a kiss to her cheek before nodding.
"Of course. Let's just get you out of your pajamas," the mother said, heading up the stairs to quickly change the child.
It took five minutes to change Willa's clothes and put her hair up before returning back down to find Normani standing at the entrance.
"Well, aren't you looking stylish," Normani commented as Willa jumped down the last three steps and began to blush.
"Do you need any money in case she asks for something?" Lauren asked, grabbing her wallet from the entrance table.
"Lo, don't worry about it. I'm using the 5H card for the groceries and if Willa wants a treat I'll just use my money."
"No way, let me-"
"Lo. Let me spoil her," Normani demanded lightly taking Lauren's wallet and putting it back on the table.
Lauren smiled and tugged the front of Normani's coat, bringing them closer so she could press their lips together in a kiss.
"I'll see you later," Normani whispered lightly, making the Latina nod before she crouched down and opened her arms for a hug from Willa.
"Be good, pretty girl," Lauren said, making the child nod profusely.
"I'll hold Mani's hand."
"That's my good girl. I love you," Lauren kissed Willa's forehead before standing up, waving the two off as they went out the door and down the driveway to the car.
"I've got an idea, princess," Normani said as she made sure Willa buckled herself in properly before starting the car.
"What is it?"
