5 months later...

May 27th

The day had arrived. Willa's sixth birthday. She never really knew how to celebrate a birthday properly. At the children's home, Ms. Lawrence got mini cupcakes for all the kids and put a candle in the cupcake of the child who was celebrating their day, but that was it. But things were different now. After nine months of living with her new family, and living a life of a semi-normal child, the little one was ready to celebrate the day the way that she deserved.

It started with her mama singing her a gentle song, Lauren's hand running over her back as Willa groggily woke up and welcomed the day.

"'Cause the stars are dull when they're compared to you and I

And if people don't like it then they can close their eyes

'Cause we're not the same and we don't have to try

We're brighter than fireflies, we're gonna light the sky"

"Morning, mama," Willa whispered, using a fist to rub the sleep from her eyes.

"Morning, pretty girl. Happy birthday," Lauren said just as softly, pressing a gentle kiss to Willa's nose. "Are you hungry?"

Willa nodded her agreement, earning a laugh from her mama who sat up from the side of the bed she was laid out on and reached for the now six-year-old to join her.

"Mani and Ally are whipping up a special breakfast just for you."

"Is there nutella and jam toast?" Willa asked excitedly, waking up entirely as she began to bounce on her toes, working up Raider and Leo who wanted to join in on the fun.

"You'll have to see for yourself," Lauren winked, making the little one giggle before she hurried out of the room and down the stairs (a hand clutching the handrail – mind you).

"There's my princess!" Normani cheered upon the entry of Willa into the kitchen.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Ally sang/screamed as she abandoned her fruit art and hurried for the child to give her big squeeze.

"Thanks, Ally," Willa said before squealing as kisses attacked her cheeks.

"Happy birthday, my baby," Normani said once Ally left the girl alone, stealing a moment to give Willa a gentle hug and kiss her forehead.

"Thanks, Mani."

"Alright, go sit that bum on a chair. We have a bunch of food for you to eat."

"Geez, guys. She'll be full until dinner," Lauren commented as she grabbed a piece of bacon from the plate Normani was bringing to the table.

"That's the plan," Ally said, carrying four plates in a fashion that risked getting all the food on the floor.

"Where's DJ?" Willa asked as she had a piece of toast covered in nutella and jam was placed in front of her.

"She's getting some things for your birthday. She'll be back in two hours," Normani explained, earning a shrug of understanding from Willa before the little one began to shove her food in her face.

"I think a bath is needed after breakfast," Lauren laughed as she carefully wiped some nutella from Willa's cheekbone. God knows how it got that high up on her face.

"You may want to hold off on that until after Dinah gets back with the birthday stuff. I suggest you put her in the pool to clean her off," Ally said, earning wide eyes from Lauren who was oblivious about what Dinah was returning with.
