Nightmare Returns

It has been almost a week and the humans and dragons have started to form bonds between families. Although he was happy about how things were going James couldn't help but feel alone. He had his loving mate, his family and others who loved him, but something was missing. Some of the humans that worked with James on a daily basis noticed a slight change in him, it wasn't a bad change like was going to become a ruthless King, but something just didn't feel right. His sister Jenny and her mate had moved on and started another kingdom on the other side of the dragon realms. Nightmare had yet to return and all attempts to contact her failed. It was obvious that something was weighing heavily on James, and everyone close to him was becoming more worried by the day. Slowly James stopped showing up to the meetings, instead his trusted advisor started showing up in his place. When asked about it he only said that James was busy with other things regarding the kingdom, although it could be seen in his eyes that he was trying to cover something up. Days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months as James slowly becomes less and less visible in the kingdom, James was always active in everything regarding the kingdom, and the current situation was cause for concern.

About a week later Nightmare and her two children arrive at the kingdom, Nightmare looks around and could feel the sadness and tension. Her daughter Athena looks at her and says.
"Mom, you said this was a happy place. It feels so sad and lonely."

Her son Lucas nods and says as he looks around.
"Something is not right, look at the dragons. No smiles, only sadness and concern show."

Nightmare nods as a guard walks up to them.
"Good day Nightmare, I hope your travels were safe."

Nightmare nods and says as she noticed the sadness within him.
"What has happened here? This place use to be vibrant and happy, has something happened to James?"

The guard nods and says with sadness in his voice.
"The last few months have been hard, King James has only been out of the palace twice in the last three months. He is almost impossible to talk to, the dragons and humans that live here are concerned about him."

Nightmare nods and sighs heavily.
"I must speak with him, before he does something stupid. And his children need to meet their father."

The guard nods and smiles.
"He will be happy to know you are here. We have been trying for months to contact you. Each attempt was a failure."

Nightmare nods and sighs.
"That is my fault, we have been out of country for the last 18 months. I was showing my children the world and introducing them to the difference cultures around the world. When I seen the messages we came here as fast as possible. It was the last message delivered that gave me the greatest concern."

The guard nods and says as he turns to go to the palace.
"Come, your room has been kept as you left it. Only the palace staff was allowed in to keep it clean and dust free."

Nightmare nods and looks at Athena and Lucas.
"When we get there I want you both to give your father a hug and tell him how much you love him."

Lucas nods as they walk to the palace.
"Yes mother." He sees a couple of young dragons arguing over a dragon fruit that had fallen, Lucas walks over picks another one and says.
"Instead of arguing you should work together." Lucas gives the other one to the sister. The two young dragons nod and say.
"Thank you, we promise to work together." As they run off happy.

Nightmare nods and says.
"Very good my son. James would have done the same thing."

Lucas nods as they continue to the palace.

Athena smiles and says.
"I'm going to make dad a cake or something. Hopefully it cheers him up."

Nightmare smiles and chuckles.
"I'm sure it will my daughter, he has always loved cake and cookies. Why don't you make him some of your delicious dragon fire cookies."

Athena nods and giggles.
"That's a good idea mom."

Walking into the palace the staff smiles and says.
"Good day Nightmare. It's good to see you again."

Nightmare nods and smiles as she continues to her room. She sees James walking to the kitchen and says.
"Hey mopey! Why so sad?"

James looks over and his eyes light up, he runs over to Nightmare and says.
"Nightmare, I've been trying to contact you for months." He hugs Nightmare as Lucas and Athena smile, at the same time both say.
"Hi, dad."

James looks at Lucas and Athena then at Nightmare and then back at Lucas and Athena.
"Are they my children with you?"

Nightmare nods and smiles.
"Yes they are. This is Lucas your son, and this is Athena your daughter."

James nods and hugs Lucas and Athena.
"I'm glad you are here. I desperately need some help. I need one of you to help with the new trainees for the palace guard and one to help at the orphanage."

Lucas stands tall and says with authority in his voice.
"I'll handle the trainees. I'll whip their ass into shape."

Athena smiles and says.
"I'll help at the orphanage."

Nightmare nods and smiles.
"And I'll help you with whatever else needs to be done." Nightmare look at Lucas and says with a smirk.
"If those trainees are not crawling at the end of the day, you and me are gonna have a little throw down."

Lucas nods and says with a smile.
"They will be crawling and whimpering."

Nightmare nods and says.
"Good, now both of you go do what your father has asked of you."  Lucas and Athena nod and smile as they take off. Nightmare smiles and nods, looking at James she says.
"What's left to be done?"

James sighs and says.
"The normal madness."

Nightmare nods and chuckles as she nuzzles James.
"Let's get to it. And we are staying here, we aren't going anywhere."

Yay! Nightmare is back, and it appears that she had two children by James. I wonder how things are going to go with Nightmare, Lucas and Athena helping out in the kingdom?
