Ava's POV
I stand there in front of the mirror, looking at myself: my long, dark, brunette hair, my blue eyes, and my tall, toned body. Today is a big day. Today I am to train all the new recruits, and to make soldiers out of them. Suddenly I go back to when I was little. I'm standing there in the streets, hungry and looking for food. Crossing the street, I become desperate, when all of a sudden I hear this hear-shattering booming sound. Suddenly I'm airborne, and then hitting the ground. The ringing fills my ears and head. Debris is falling down like rain all over me. I quickly regain my focus and realize a bomb has went off in the hospital diagonal of me. I get to my feet and hear the yelling inside the building, I know people are dying and I want to help. I run into the burning building. It's quickly filling up with smoke, all I can hear is screams. I run to a patient, little, petite old woman struggling to get out. I sling her shoulder over mine and lug her out of the building. I go back into the building, putting my shirt over my nose to help mask my face from the choking, deathly smog all around me.
I sprint up the stairs to the second floor. It's chaos up here, people running around, screaming, yelling for help. I run into a room where a woman is with her new baby. I tell her to come with me and help her out of her bed, I lead her to the stairs and help her down. By that time most of the burning building had cleared out. We were one of the last ones out. I drop to the ground coughing, trying to get the smoke out of my lungs. Someone hands me a water bottle and I look up to see it who it is. There in front of me is General Griffin, the leader of our government. I look up into his eyes and take in his appearance. He is tall but has a crick in his back, with dark hair and deep brown eyes with olive skin. He's handsome but with a creepy, dangerous hint to him. I take a drink from the bottle of water and say thank you.
"Not a problem darling," he says,"Do you know who I am?" he asks.
"You're General Griffin" I say.
"Correct, and what's your name"?
"Ava, Ava Smith".
"Well Ava Smith that was a very brave thing you did there, how old are you?"
"I'm eight years old" I say.
"I noticed before this terrible accident that it looked like you were looking for food. Are you hungry Ava"?
I nod slowly and look down, ashamed. "I thought so," he said, "Well Ava I was wondering if you would like to come and live with me. I'd take care of you and feed you, and you would train under my personal guard."
I just sat there awestruck. Here I am, a poor, homeless, hungry little girl and the General Griffin has asked me to stay with him. I eagerly said yes, and he held out his hand. I hesitantly took his hand and he pulled me to my feet.
I am now brushing my curly brunette hair, combing through all of the knots and tangles. Suddenly I'm back to when I was little growing up in the capital. I remember arriving at the capital and being scared, super scared but also so eager. I wanted to learn everything I could and make the General proud. The first thing I did was take a long shower. The General insisted since I had a "ripe smell" to me. When I turned on the faucets so many colors of waters with soap in them came pouring down filling the tub quickly. I got out of the bath and clothes were there waiting for me. When I was changed a servant was waiting for me outside. He led me into a room with a huge table. The General and another man was sitting at the table. The man was very scary looking. The General motioned for me to sit down. "Welcome Ava, how was your bath?" he asked.
"It was awesome!" I replied.
"Good." he said
He motioned to the man sitting next to him, "This is Chris, the captain of my personal guard, he'll be training you from this point on."
"Hi." I said
He nodded at me. I looked down at my plate, not knowing what to do or say. The General handed me a piece of paper. On it was a schedule, my new schedule. At 6:00 am was two mile run. 7:00 - 8:00 am is breakfast, 8:00 - 11:00 survival tactics, 11:00-12:00 lunch, 1:00pm-3:00 pm English and writing, 3:00 - 5:00 pm Government, 5:00 - 6:00 Math, 6:00-7:00 dinner, 7:00-8:00 pm weapons practice, 8:00-10:00 pm free time, and 10:00 pm lights out.
"Do you agree to this?" I remember him asking, "It will be hard, and you will want to quit sometimes; but I promise you that if you agree to this and stick to it, it will be very much worth it."
I look him in the eyes and nod my head, at that moment I knew I was not going to give up and I was going to succeed and train my hardest. From then on I trained everyday. I followed my schedule to the T, I worked hard and succeeded. After a while I started to notice my body changing. I filled out and then turned it into a muscle. I became quicker, stronger, and was a extreme survivalist, and a master weaponist. Soon after my classes started my government teacher quickly noticed I had a talent for government and its laws. I soon mastered my government class, and began taking online classes. Also following the General around to his meetings and political discussions. After a while the General and I grew closer, to where he began to trust me and I began to trust him. As I followed him around began putting my input in. While I was doing that I continued my training and raised in rank fast. Until I was the General's number one councilor and most trusted friend. I became the known as the most deadly soldier, a soldier of quickness and death.
Now fifteen years later from when I first came to the capital with the general, I'm here. I got my new assignment, my first assignment like this. I'm filled with a new kind of nervousness but I must not show it. I am now 23 years old, the most deadly fighter some say, and the General's most trusted councilor. I'm here to train the new recruits coming in. I realize that I'm still sitting there with the brush in my hair, I finish combing my hair. I stand up and finish getting ready. I look in the mirror for the last time and look at myself, I mentally prepare and then go over and put my shoes on and slide my gun into my holster. I grab my ID badge and opened the front door and walked out.
I walk down the long hallway of made gray brick walls, with cement floors. I walk past a few people hurrying down the passageway, looking determined to get to their destination. I turn right and head to the elevators. Coming off are a group of guards, I nod at them and they nod back. I get on the elevator and go to the ground floor. I go down another passage until I see the sign that says training arena. I stop outside the door and take a deep breath.
"Well this is it" I think.
I take another deep breath, open the door, and walk in.
