Chapter 15
Collin's POV
The rest of the guards, agents, and recruits in the courtyard looked at me as the blue hologram began to play. Ava had her gun held up, ready to defend me if anyone attacked, yet her eyes were locked on the hologram. The grass was bathed in the light as we watched the world the way it used to be, the world when it wasn't controlled by the corruption. People used to smile from real happiness back then, and no one was afraid. Griffin ruined this world and I was going to expose the truth. My eyes scanned the room as the recognition began to set in. Everyone in the room watched the hologram as Griffin took power and slowly becoming more corrupt, killing off people who didn't agree with the rules he had set for his 'perfect' society. The few things he did to stay in power were horrid and, everyone here knew it too. One by one, agents and guards turned, looking at Griffin.
"Shut it off! That whole thing is a lie, don't believe this juvenile delinquent and traitorous wench. They don't have any clue how this works!" Griffin exclaimed.
Griffin began bombarding past people, knocking agents and recruits over to get to me but his own people turned and pinned him to the side of the clock tower. Finally they were protecting me instead of trying to kill me. I pushed my way through the mass of people in front of me and stood my ground in front of the horrid and corrupt... thing that has had our minds poisoned for so long.
"What is your problem?" I asked.
The look of rage danced in Griffin's eyes like a wild fire lit to a forest. I knew how the hatred was boiling his blood, the hatred he had for me.
"Where did you get that!?" He spat, saliva spraying from his mouth as he shouted in the mostly silent room.
"That is of no concern to you. You've ruined a society that was perfect because of your sick hunger for power! What's wrong with you?" I glared, knowing my blue eyes were glaring right through his little game. I knew he was lying about everything, and I knew about all the rules he changed, the things he's said, the people he killed.
"I'm not an idiot Griffin. You not only kill those who oppose you or want you out of power. You killed every official before you to keep them from letting the people know what a monster you are. What's so great about power? What was it you wanted? What did you gain from any of this other than a poisoned mind filled with hatred and insanity? We trusted you and this is what you do? Ruin a beautiful society?" His brown eyes darker than ever, almost a pitch black that could scare a small child, but he wasn't fooling me.
"This is my society! I control you! I control you all! I made this place in my image and my image alone, I didn't need old officials to tell me what I can and can't do. You though, blessed with the mark, soul older than anyone could imagine, you got in my way! You're ruining my society!" Griffin began thrashing around, his head whipping in every direction like his anger consumed his body and became a living embodiment.
I stepped back, not expecting the rage to be that intense. A hushed murmur settled over the room as they watched Griffin unravel right in front of their eyes.
That's not Griffin. I've never seen him act like this. He's not okay, he's insane.
"Exactly! He is insane! Why should we live in a world like this? A fake one made by you?" Ava growled lowly, anger very visible within her.
"You're the epitome of insanity! I trusted you in everything! I let you hold my life in your grabby hands! How can you destroy the will of so many people and be okay with it!" She screamed, her face slowly turning red the longer she let her anger rise.
I stepped back, allowing her a clear view of Griffin. This isn't like her and even I was a bit disturbed by this. Hearing her scream like a mad woman was new, but Griffin deserved it. He deserved to know nothing but hatred for ruining the lives of so many happy people. I looked down and heard a crack. I looked up to see Ava, hand raised and tears running down her now red cheeks. Griffin had a red handprint on the side of his face and the room has fallen silent. Ava stormed out and all those in the room looked to me.
"Seeing as you have exposed Griffin for the lunatic he is what do you suppose is done?" Admiral Adams looked at me, his once blissful ignorance now gone and a small grimace beginning to form on his face.
I turned to look at Griffin, my face twisted with disgust. "You don't deserve to be here If you just wish to destroy us all. You will be held until execution by firing squad led by myself and Ava." I nodded once, letting Griffin be lead to a holding somewhere in this facility.
I looked to my feet. He's gone. He can't hurt us any more or Territory 155. Finally things can be truly perfect like they were years ago. I looked up feeling a hand on my shoulder. Admiral Adams looked at me, less of a grim look on his face, more of a disappointed expression. Making me realize just how much trust these people put into Griffin. I felt saddened, because one needs to feel like that.
"You did well boy. Seeing the darkness he covered this territory in, you have preserved society." With that, Admiral Adams walked from the room, the others following him close by.
Leaving me alone I faintly heard the soft sounds of rain, hitting against the window slowly. Everything's going to change now. Without Griffin it'll be better now.
Yeah... it'll be better.
For now
