Chapter 16
Collin's POV
The pitter patter of the rain on the window is so soothing to me. It seems so relaxing and calm. The courtyard looks so empty, but soon enough it will be filled will people.Sighing deeply, I walk out of my room and into the training area where Ava is waiting for me. Today is going to be the biggest day in history. Everyone will remember this day.
She walks over to me, her hands shaking a bit, her breath coming out a little ragged. I guess she's nervous too, I don't blame her.
"You know you shouldn't be nervous, Collin this is for the good of the people because you're saving everyone. So chin up and smile." She says forcing a smile, the tone of her voice suggested that I should do it.
"Tell that to yourself, you're more nervous than I am." laughing I notice Morgan and Reagan meeting up with us. I nod to them, Ava smiles at them and we all stand there in silence for a bit.
"So should we get going?" Morgan asks shuffling his feet. Reagan nods her head staying close to Morgan's side.
"Yeah. Morgan? Reagan? Get Griffin and make sure you have extra guards with you. Meet us in the courtyard at 12 P.M. please." Ava tells them as she crosses her arms. They nodded and walked over together, heading to Griffin's cell.
Ava closes her eye for a few minutes. "I can't believe we're doing this. I know he was a bad guy and it feels wrong, he saved me at one point. That means he was a good person." She looks at me sad, "It feels wrong, you know?" Despite all of what she said, she had a look of hope. I understood her, I understood why it was difficult for her, and I also understand that he's done so much wrong; Griffin was a bad guy. . You know what I mean?" She looks up at me a sad, yet hopeful look that I would understand shadowed her face, and I do get it, but he was bad and what he did was wrong nonetheless.
I nod, "Yeah I understand. Also understand that we have to do this because it's the right thing to do. If we don't do this who knows what will happen. He could try to take over again." Looking her in the eyes, her facial features start to harden trying to hide her emotions, but I can read her like a book.
She puts a hand on my shoulder, pushing me toward the door. "We should leave before they start to think we're not here anymore." I nod as we start walking to the courtyard.
Passing through the doors that led outside, a gray sky welcomed us. I look around and see people already gathering up to watch. I can't believe so many people are here already. Is there going to be more people? Someone yelling from my left made me turn my head, I see Griffin struggling in Morgan and Reagan's grasps. The extra guards following behind them.
They put him on the ground kneeling in front of Ava, his hands tied behind his back and staring Ava in her eyes. Struggle all you want but no one is going to save you, I am the last face you will ever see.
"Morgan get the guns and one bullet each." I demand while walking towards Griffin.
I look up at the clock, it's 11:55. I look at Ava, it's time. Morgan hands Ava, Reagan, and I a gun, also keeping one for himself.
"Morgan, stand to Collin's left. I will stand to his right, and Reagan please stand next to Morgan. Don't fire till I give the signal." They nod and get into place.
I look Griffin straight in the eyes and smile, "Do you have any last words Griffin before you meet the end of your days?" He looks up at me, glancing around to see the others beside me. Then his eyes met mine again.
"Society you will raze..." Griffin says closing his eyes. The clock strikes 12 and Ava gives the signal and we all fire at the same time. The rain stops as his body drops to the ground, blood pools around his head. Reagan turns her head getting a little queasy, Morgan puts his hand on her shoulder to comfort her.
I can't hear anything, but then there was a loud ringing in my ears. I look up at the crowd and they are cheering and clapping. The ringing gets louder and I feel a hand on my shoulder, I look at the hand and follow the arm to the face of the person. It's Ava, she is shaking me,"Collin you okay?"
" Y-yeah I am fine, let's clean up this mess." She nods and the extra guards get some mops to clean up the stage and a body bag. The crowd thins out until everyone was gone. Silence filled the courtyard.
