“Looks like he’s weakening.” I said, as I knelt down and touched the footprint in the dirt.
“Yeah, he’s gone from jumping around in the trees to running on the floor” Nyx said, as she scanned the area. I stood up, wiping my hands on my trousers.
“Let’s get a move on then, I want to be back at base sooner rather than later” I told her, standing by her side. “Plus his rookies might have made it back to his hometown by now”
She nodded, looking in the distance. “Explain to me why you let them live again?” she sighed, crossing her arms, her gaze never leaving the spot from where she was looking.
I focused in her direction of sight, closing my eyes and listening to the wind, listening to the tiny voices of the forest, listening for anything out of the ordinary.
“Because, my clothes are mucky enough as it is. I don’t want to give Yumi more work than she needs.
“That kind of talk will get you more anti-feeling training with the Raikage and the Mizukage” she replied.
“Nah, just a stern talking to”
Nyx chuckled.
“He’s about 2 miles away” I said, reopening my eyes.
“So close, I would put it at about 1.8” she said, a faint smile across her lips. I smiled too.
“Let’s see who’s closer than” I told her. We both smirked at each other and set off at a run.
************************************************
In less than 10 minutes, the escaped Nin was no more, and we were on our way back to the base.
“Nice timing on my attacks there Ryuu” Nyx said.
“Same to you, you have got to remember though that my Taijutsu technique takes at least 0.37 more seconds than yours. I could have hit you!” I said to her, hopping onto another branch.
“Yeah yeah” she yawned, sounding bored, she then looked at me and we both smirked. Today had been another successful mission. How many missions we have had since our training ended? I couldn’t count. Most of it was hunting down missing Nin, hunting traitors and everything.
We came to the base, checked around for any unusual chakra and proceeded inside. The base was just like your traditional house. If anyone came across it, they would just think that a rich hermit lived here, not two highly trained assassins.
Yumi collected our clothes as we changed. We could choose our clothes now we had finished training. I held the mask that my former associate had bequeathed to me after he had died, he was only a few years older than us. Many people thought he was a girl because of his beauty, but only me, Nyx and our ex teacher Zabuza knew better. They had died at the hands of some Leaf Nin’s a year ago. I put the mask down, I would wear it when we were finally shown to the world. When we were finally “Ready"
“Are you girls okay?” Yumi asked, a big smile plastered across her face. Me and Nyx both glanced at each other, this was not like Yumi. I studied her: Hair, normal. Clothes, normal. Her hands that were holding our clothes were sweating, her face was plastered in a big false smile.
We nodded to her, signalling that we knew what was up.
Her smile turned into a genuine one then, like relief had flooded her.
“That’s good, you’ll have your dinner in the sitting room today, not in the kitchen and certainly not in here.” She said.
“Okay Yumi.” Nyx said. A glint came from the corner of my eye, headed straight for Yumi. With the quickness that had been taught to us by our teachers, I caught the steel needles in-between my fingers, as Nyx ran and grabbed our packs. I threw the needles back in the direction they came, kicked open our closet and Nyx shoved Yumi in there and locked the door. Our closet was made out of the strongest wood, re-enforced with steel for a quick hiding place.
We ran into the kitchen, Nyx tossing me my pack as we did. These people were good at hiding their chakra, which could only mean they were not your average burglars. A wave of water burst through the kitchen windows, before it could hit us, we were on the ceiling, me: making a lighting jutsu and aiming it at the water, and Nyx: throwing shirkuens at the people who had come in with the water. All of them blew up into either water or smoke when they were hit by a shiruken or electrocuted by the water.
“These are nin from Kage sects.” I shouted, over the crackling of the electricity.
“No kidding. Some are from the Mizukages and others from the Raikage.”
“You figure out what’s going on?” I asked,
“I know we both have an inking” she shouted back. “This isn’t like last time” she threw a kunai behind her, hitting the ninja who had crawled up behind her in the shoulder. He disappeared in a puff of smoke.
When the kitchen was cleared, and the electricity gone, we jumped back down onto the floor.
“You think it’s time?” I asked, ripping a bit of cloth off from my clothes and tying up my hair with it. I was glad it hadn’t gotten all in my eyes when we were upside down.
“Yeah, it’s got to be. We’re ten and a half now, when else are they gonna do it?” she asked, picking up her gear.
We ran into the living room, only to find our masters, sitting there calmly, on their knees.
“2 minuets, starting from when you were talking to Yumi, I’m impressed.” The Mizukage said. The Raikage nodded in agreement.
We both got on our hands and knees and bowed before our masters, like we had been taught.
“I figure you have guessed what is going on right now?” The Raikage asked.
We sat up and nodded.
“Yes, that’s right. It is time to show you to the world. As you know, when we ordered you to fight us, you brought us to our hands and knees, making you successful Kage killers.” My master said.
The Raikage nodded in agreement, reliving the experience. I’m not sure whether he was proud, or ashamed.
“As you can recall, we showed you to Kirigakure and Kumogakure where we made you fight us, flat out, no easy options, no taking it easy on each other.”
I nodded, that was a time to remember. Everyone was laughing, murmuring that the Kages had gone mad. We had a huge crowd, almost all of the hidden village came that we were in. Their faces soon turned to fear when we took the Kages down, and to prove that the Kages hadn’t gone easy on us, they made us fight a bunch of Ninjas that volunteered to take us down, to see if we were legit. I think there were about 40 in total, it took about 10 minuets, maybe less. All I could remember was that the masters were proud.
We did that both times in each village, both the same reactions. Smirks, Murmurs, disbelief. Then Shock, mixed with held in terrified screams and wide eyes. Some shouted that we were children od Bijuu and should be locked away. Those people themselves are now locked away. The Kages said that anyone who goes against us should be treated like I traitor, for we were the saviours of our villages. Since then, people treated us with respect, not daring to look into our eyes, not daring to come within 5 steps of us, cheering for us when we were presented and always giving bows of respect when they saw us.
Not that we had been in the villages since then.
“As you well know, after we showed you to the villages, rumours stared spreading all around the world. And now Konoha wants to know what is going on, being the nosey brats they are. So, we agreed. We shall be leaving in two days, and no doubt that the Hokage himself will want to test to see if you are what we say you are, so be ready for a Kage fight. That is all, you may go.”
A guard had let Yumi out of the closet and she was now in the room with us, taking us by the hands and leading us out.
“Oh and Yumi, make sure they look cute and innocent and make sure we have a big entrance, we want a big surprise to hit Konoha when we get there.”
