PERSPECTIVE {Iris}
Today I didn't have work, so I have been sitting at home, looking through all my rom-com movies. I am trying to pick the perfect one for when Barry comes back over.
It was weird how he had to leave on such notice, but I guess that's how it works when you work with the police.
I'm sitting on the floor in my red dress, looking through at least 100 movies. What can I say, I love romantic comedies. As I look through all the disks, I finally come across my favorite one of all time. It's called 10 Things I Hate About You. It's about a girl who meets this guy, I know, typical rom com. But her younger sister can't date anyone until Kat, the main character, has a boyfriend.
I've only seen it a million times. But it gets better every time, and it will be 10 times better with Barry around.
I start to pack the rest of the disks back into the cabinet, and I set 10 Things I Hate About You on the table. I stand up and stretch, then walk into the kitchen. I look over at the clock on the wall and check the time. It's almost 6. Barry will be over at 7. I walk back out to the living room.
I've never had a movie night date at home, so I don't know what to prepare. Fluff the couch pillows? Oh boy. Right as I pick up a pillow, Wally speeds back into the house.
Bit of info here, Wally is Kid Flash. He tries to beat Flash to everything, because he wants to make himself more famous. He gained his powers from Alchemy, who is basically this guy who is trying to give people powers that they supposedly had in another life. So, Wally accepted his.
"Hey, Wally. What's up?" I say, fluffing the pillow and setting it down.
"Oh, just running around, saving Central City from the villains, being Kid Flash." He smiles, walking into the kitchen and opening the fridge. "Let me tell you, running makes you famished."
"I bet." I laugh, continuing to fluff pillows.
"What are you doing?" Wally asks me. He comes back with a hamburger in his hand.
"Fluffing pillows for my date tonight." I smile. I sound so stupid.
"Barry coming back over?" Wally bites his burger.
"Yes, he is." I sit down on the couch.
"He better bring me a flower." Wally jokes.
"I bet he will... not." I smile.
"Oh, Iris." He says, taking his burger upstairs.
Nobody else knows about Wally being Kid Flash. Not even my dad, and he will be the last person to know. We really hope he won't be mad. I think he will be back fro work late tonight, so I hope we will have enough time for the movie before he goes back.
All of my favorite movies are Dad's least favorite. I always forced my dad to watch them with me, and he always agreed because I am his baby girl. He won't say no to me. But I must pick the best for Barry. This one is basically like a lot of rom com movies out there.
I walk upstairs and go to the closet, and I pull out the fluffiest blanket we own. I take it downstairs and throw it on the couch.
You know what, I'm going to order a pizza. Who doesn't like pizza?
Hopefully not Barry.
I pull out my cellphone and call the local pizza place.
"Hey, cam I get one large cheese pizza?" I say into the phone.
"Yes, ma'am. What's your name?" This comes out the other end.
"Iris." I say.
"Thank you. That will be ready in about 45 minutes, pretty busy today." He says.
"Thanks. Bye. " I hang up the phone. I put my phone down on the table and sit down on the couch.
Later That Night
I hear a knock on the door and walk down the stairs. I check how I look in the mirror, and think to myself that was pointless. I'm in sweatpants and a t-shirt. I approach the door and turn the knob, pulling the door back.
Barry is standing there, a rose in each hand. He's wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants too. He makes it work.
"Hey, Iris." He smiles, placing a kiss on my cheek. He hands me the roses.
"Hey, Barry. Come on in." I say, gesturing to come in. Barry comes in and heads straight for the couch.
"By the way, one of the roses is for Wally." He laughs.
"Barry, you really shouldn't have done that." I say, tilting my head.
"But it's nice. And he needs to like me." Barry says, sitting down on the couch.
"He doesn't have to like you. He doesn't choose who I end up with." I say, setting the roses in the vase with the other one. I walk over on the couch and sit down next to him.
"If you say so." Barry smiles. "Anyways, what's the selected movie for tonight?"
"I figured since you have never seen a romantic comedy, we have to watch one. So I picked 10 Things I Hate About You." I say, picking the DVD case up off the table. I open it up, and pull the DVD out. I press the button which opens the DVD player. I place the DVD in, and close the player.
I go back over to the couch and plop myself next to Barry. I grab the remote off the table and press play. I curl myself up next to Barry, and he wraps his arm around me. The movie begins, and I rest my attention on the TV. Then, there is a knock on the door.
The pizza man.
I get up and open the door. I see the man holding the large pizza. I pay for the pizza and take it from him. I walk back inside and place the pizza on the table.
"Did you order pizza?" Barry asks.
"Yes, if thats okay." I say nervously.
"Duh, pizza is always okay." Barry smiles, opening the box and grabbing a slice. I'm so happy he likes it. I knew everyone likes pizza. I grab a slice for myself, and take a nice bite from it. Barry finishes his slice really fast, and taking another slice.
About An Hour Later
When we are a little past halfway through the movie, Barry is asleep next to me, and all the pizza is gone. Barry looks so pure and innocent, I just can't bring myself to wake him up. I bet he was bored with the movie.
That's okay, not everyone is a romantic comedy person. I decide to lay my head on Barry's chest and just gently close my eyes. I instantly fall asleep with Barry's comforting aurora.
