Bea is Here

Cassandra's POV

I grab a pillow and Lay Toby's head on it, and I walk out the door.

I didn't realize that my own back has a crimson red substance pouring out from the marks on my back, so I pull on a thick grey jacket, hoping it covers the blood well enough.

I push the thought from my mind and pound on the Prior's front door

I do the special knock that Toby, Bea, and I came up with when we need one or the other immediately.

It is a pattern: 4 knocks, 6 knocks, 10 knocks.

Mrs. Prior comes to the door.

D*** it!

"H-hello, Ms. Prior. Is Beatrice home, I need her immediately."

"Yes, she is. May I ask what you need her for?"

"Ummm... Toby, er, Tobias, is feeling ill. I was wondering if she could help?"

"Oh, yes, dear! You should have said that in the first place!" she says, opening the door wider "Please, come in, I'll call her down,"

Mrs. Prior goes to, what I assume, is Bea's room.

Seconds later, Bea comes down the steps and rushes to me. Now noticing the crimson colour coming out from my jacket.

"Oh, my, Toby's not ill, is he?" She asks examining my shoulders

"No, Bea, he's not. But he asked for you," I pause to sniffle, "He went unconscious for about a half hour before I came here. His first words were 'can you get, Bea?'"

I know that's not entirely true, but I would rather not explain what happened here.

She wipes her eyes, which are glossy with tears, and follows me out the front door.

Once we get out of their driveway, we break into a full on sprint.

I can hear nothing but the sound of pouring footsteps and my beating heart.

We approach the front door, and walk in with caution, not sure if Marcus is home or not.

When I'm sure he's not here, I rush up the stairs, not caring if I make too much noise, with Bea on my heals.

I get into Toby's room and see he's in the same position I left him in: laying on his belly, with his head on a pillow.

"Toby!" Bea exclaims and rushes over to him, placing her small hand on the back of his head.

"I'm fine, Bea, really," he says lifting his hand up and cupping Bea's cheek, and she turns her head into his hand.

"I'll go get the gauze and medical tape," I mutter, exiting the room swiftly.

Bea's POV

I'm kneeling beside Toby's bed, stroking his hair gently, and muttering the words to the song Temporary Home by Carrie Underwood.

I think it helps remind him that he will get out soon, that is is his temporary home.

...This is my temporary home, it's not where I belong. Windows and rooms, that I'm passing through...

He hums softly along to the words.

It's our song. It's silly, but we both know that we won't stay here, in Abnegation. That we will both leave.

Toby first, then me, then Cas.

Abnegation is our temporary home.

Cassandra's POV

I hurried down the stairs, still not caring if I make too much noise, and rush over to the small hidden cabinet that I keep special stuff in it; stuff that I don't want Marcus to find.

In it, I have a medical kit, a few pieces jewelry (all from my mother), a few rocks (from a rock collection I have, stupid, but enjoyable), and a small, cracked mirror.

I pick up the mirror, and stare at my reflection, longer than acceptable.

Staring back at me is a thirteen year old girl, with dark brown hair and stormy grey eyes, and a nose that is too long and ears that stick out too far.

I'm nothing like my brother; his features, even though they reflect my father, suit him. If he wasn't Abnegation, I'm sure the girls at school would stare at him.

I tuck the mirror back into it's hiding place, and grab the medical kit.

With the kit in hand, I make my way back to Toby's room.

The door is shut, but I can hear talking inside. I stop and press my ear to the door.

...Old man, hospital bed. The room is filled with people he loves. And he whispers don't cry for me, I'll see you all someday. He looks up and says "I can see God's face""This is my temporary Home. It's not where I belong. Windows in rooms that I'm passin' through. This was just a stop, on the way to where I'm going. I'm not afraid because I know this was my temporary home."This is our temporary home...

It's Bea singing. She has a beautiful voice. Toby hums along to the words. It's their song. It reminds both of them that they will transfer out of Abnegation; that this it's their temporary home.

I push the door open and handed Bea the gauze and medical tape.

"How is he?" I ask her.

"Better," She replies, wrapping the gauze around his bare back and taping it securely in place. "Now you," she mutters.

I turn to Toby and give him a look. He rolls his eyes, and turns around.

I remove my shirt and cross my arms over my small chest.

Bea quickly wraps the gauze and hands me my shirt again.

"Finally," Toby utters.

"Shut up," I replied.

"Whatever"
