Chapter 1
Lily’s POV:
I watched as mom is kicked in the stomach for the tenth time. Her quiet cries of pain reach my ears. I wanted to help, but she told me not to.
Sobs wracked my body as I just sat there watching the scene. I can’t continue to live like this.
“Stop, leave her alone.” I threw my hand over my mouth as the words left it. I sat silent and hoped that he didn’t hear, but I knew he did. He always heard.
I shivered in fear as he turned around to stare at me with my mom’s head clenched in his hand. Her eyes pleaded with me to not say a word as they caught mine for a second.
Throwing her across the room, I watched as he descended upon me. Backing up from him, I felt the cold hard wall behind me. My eyes widened as he brought his face right in front of mine.
The stench of his breath made me crinkle my nose in disgust.
“Who said you can talk?” The breath knocks out of me as he grabs my neck in a death grip, slamming me into the wall.
“I said who in the hell said you can talk?” His eyes burned with anger as he stared at me. Chocking for air I try to reply, but I’m unable to.
Dots popped before my vision as he gripped harder. Closing my eyes, I knew it was time to give up on it all.
Hearing a loud crack I’m thrown to the floor gasping for air as his hand loses its grip. I stare up in shock at the sight of my mom over his limp body holding the remaining pieces of a chair.
“Run Lilly.” I stared at my mom in horror as she repeated the sentence to me.
“I said run Lilly! Hurry before he wakes up! I’ll keep him occupied until you’re gone.” I saw the tears on her face as she said the words. I didn’t want to leave her, but I knew that if I didn’t leave then I’d be dead when he woke up.
“Run baby, don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.” I stared at my mom as she told me the one lie we both knew wasn’t true.
Shaking I stand up and stare at my mom, ignoring the passed out person beside me. He moaned when I pushed his body away from me.
Giving my mom one last glance I give her the one thing she wanted me to do. I ran.
