Chapter 6
Lily's POV:
The smell of pancakes woke me up that morning. My stomach rumbled with anticipation for the food. Moving my left hand I could feel the dog's soft fur as it still slept soundly next to me.
Sitting up I try not to shake the bed. I wonder if the pancakes are for me. Reaching over I turn off the light that still put off a glow across the now sunlit room.
Inching my head out of the room the smell of the pancakes becomes stronger. Feeling a soft nudge to my feet I look down into the brown eyes of the dog that slept with me last night.
“Oh sweetheart just come on into the kitchen. I made breakfast.”A ladies voice says from the hall. Angling my head to see her I notice that she’s the older lady who I had met last night at the police station as she walked down the hall.
Walking slowly I followed her down the hall and into the kitchen. Dishes of food covered the table causing my eyes to go wide at the sight. Never in my life have I seen so much food on a table.
I watched as the dog padded over to the food set out on the floor for it. The name Sally was etched across the food bowl overflowing with kibble.
Her light golden brown hair shined in the light as she happily ate her food.
“Sally girl is a Lab.” A voice says from the table. Looking over I saw the man who was supposed to be my dad smiling at me as he drunk from a cup.
“She's a sweet dog, so I wasn't really surprised that she slept with you last night.” He said with a crooked smile.
“Will she get in trouble for sleeping with me in my bed?” I asked timidly. I didn't want Sally to get in trouble. His laugh filled the kitchen as he took in my words.
“Never. She usually sleeps with me, but I guess she prefers you. You don't snore.” He says with a smile. I watch as he grabs a few pancakes and starts to eat them after he smothered them with syrup.
“Here sweetheart sit down and get you a plate filled. God knows you need some meat on those bones.” Says the older lady I had followed into the kitchen.
I walk towards the chair that she had pulled out for me and sit down.
“By the way sweetheart you can call me Nana.” She tells me with a smile as she pats my head and heads back to her stove.
Looking across the table I can't choose which thing to eat first. My eye catches on the pitcher full of orange juice. After pouring myself some juice I grab two pancakes.
After pouring a hefty amount of syrup onto the pancakes I take a bite of my food. My eyes widen at the spectacular taste. These have to be some of the best pancakes I have ever eaten.
Unable to help it I clean up my plate within five minutes. Sitting back I can't help but pat my now protruding belly.
“Now that you've eaten, why don't I show you to some clothes and you can go get changed and take a walk around the property with Jake?” She tells me. Nodding my head I follow her to the room that I had woken up in. A box that I didn't notice earlier sat next to the bed open showing clothes of different types and colors.
