A/N: Picture on the side is Vinnie.
Felix awoke with a start when he felt his bed sink down slightly under added pressure. He lurched forward and took an instinctual swing at whatever had disturbed him. His fist connected with something hard that also elicited a holler.
“Ow! What was that for? A disgruntled Vinnie blurted, as he collapsed at the end of Felix’s bed, holding his eye.
With sleep clouded eyes Felix could barely make out the figure at the end of his bed. “Vinnie? Why were you standing over me in my sleep?”
“I couldn’t stand your god-awful chattering, so I went you get you your blanket. And here you repay me with a black eye,” he said resentfully.
“It can’t be that bad, let me see.” Felix said leaning towards Vinnie.
Vinnie dropped his hand from his eye so Felix could inspect the damage. “You do have a pretty good arm for someone so scrawny, I’ll give you that.”
The greyish morning light streaming through the tiny bared window illuminated the room enough for Felix to make out Vinnie’s face. A tuft of fire engine red hair fell into Vinnie’s watery eyes. Felix lifted a hand to tuck the stray hair behind the boy’s ear. His thumb lingered on Vinnie’s turquois sideburn as he scrutinized the offending mark he caused on the boy’s eye. The edges of his left eye socket were pink and the eye was closed slightly as if it had already begun to swell.
“Jesus I’m sorry, I guess you shouldn’t scare me like that.” Felix flopped back on the bed and shut his eyes.
“Apology not accepted. You need to make it up to me.”
“And how do you propose I do that?” Felix asked, dreading the answer.
Vinnie crawled towards the head of the bed so that he was hovering over Felix. When the smaller boy opened his eyes he found Vinnie’s face inches from his. Their noses grazed, and a grin tugged at Vinnie’s lips. “I’m sure I could think of a few things.”
“Do you ever lay off?”
“Ha that’s a good one.”
“Seriously though, is sex all you think about?”
“No! I wasn’t even thinking about sex, you pervert!”
“Well then what were you thinking?”
“I’m not telling you.” Vinnie pouted, sidling off Felix to perch at the end of the bed. He crossed his arms stubbornly and refused to look at the smaller boy. Felix regarded Vinnie skeptically; he looked like some kind of scorned exotic bird. At that thought, a laugh escaped his lips, only it sounded like something between gasp and a hiccup.
“Are you alright?” Vinnie asked.
Felix’s eyes widened suddenly, “I laughed.”
“That was a laugh? You could take some lessons from me.”
“I can’t remember the last time I laughed.” Felix admitted.
“I can, it was about two seconds ago! Do you have amnesia?” Vinnie joked as Felix let out another breathless laugh. “You really need to work on that laugh of yours.”
