syndicate II : chapter sixteen

Ok I'm gonna write the next chapter bc this is kinda short but I didn't wanna combine them bc the subjects are too different. then post them one another the other but only when this gets 50+ comments so ty

The couple were now in Alaska and baby Charlotte was a month old. Their home was in the middle of no where, the nearest town brig ten minutes by car and half an hour walking, it felt like it was constantly snowing at the moment due to it being the colder months, it'd soon warm up and the thick snow outside would melt.

The fire was burning as Reece sat in front of it with Char in his lap and playing with her. He was entertaining her until dinner was finished, Luke was cooking up something simple and he'd already fed baby Char her food. She'd go down to sleep soon and then Luke and Reece would be alone again.

Reece ran his fingers across Char's small hands and smiling softly, she was such a beautiful little girl and Reece couldn't have been happier that they'd been able to make a baby. "We need to get some more baby stuff." He called out to Luke who was across the room at the kitchen.

He heard Luke sigh and knew what his response was going to be. "I know but it'd get abandoned after we leave and then we'd have to buy even more." Luke said.

Reece looked back at Luke, seeing the stress lines in his forehead. He stood up, holding Charlotte on his hip. He went towards Luke, kissing his head which made Luke pause and turn in to him, hugging Reece tightly. "We do this to stay together." Reece reminded Luke.

Luke turned off the stove so he didn't burn the food in the pan before holding Reece and their daughter again. "It would be easier if I gave myself in and let you and Charlotte go."

Reece tensed at the mere thought of Luke being away from him. "No, that's stupid, of course not. I can't do this alone, or anyone is giving them self in it's going to be me."

He heard Luke sniffle and then his husband looked up at him with red eyes, "I can't do it anymore." Luke cried, "I want to settle down and be happy without the constant threat of possibly being found and sent to prison and my little girl being taken away from us."

Reece cupped Luke's cheek, "I will talk to Ashton, he can distract them for a whole, he could do something to make them move on from us for a while yeah?"

Luke nodded, "please." He begged softly before pulling apart from Reece completely and wiping his face with his hands.

"Here take her and I'll go call him now." Reece said and Luke took baby Char, kissing her cheek softly as he did and turned the stove back on. Reece watched Luke for a minute before he left, grabbing his burner phone and going to their bedroom.

He called Ashton's phone number, his friend answer a few seconds in. "Reece, what's up?"

"Can you do me a favour?" Reece asked.

"Considering you're still my boss, sure, what is it?" Ashton questioned.

Reece sighed, "I need you to do something to distract the CIA FBI whoever, away from me and Luke. He's so unhappy and stressed constantly, he needs a break." Reece said, sitting down on their bed and looking out the window to the snow covered mountains around them. They had bad reception where they lived but that was a good thing right now.

"What do you want me to do?"

Reece scoffed, "I don't know, you're usually the idea man, do anything, blow up a building if you have to. Make it obvious you're alive and you want vengeance and that your large and in charge. Cause a threat. Talk to my old contacts, tell them it's time to return some favours."

He heard Ashton laugh on the other end, "what?"

Ashton grinned, "this is the Reece I know and love."

Reece rolled his eyes, "I'm not like this anymore Ashton, I'm just doing this for alike."

"Well I'll think of something." Reece sighed happily, thanking him.

"Be careful Ash."

"I will, now how's your baby girl doing?" Ashton questioned, having met the little girl when Ashton had met them when they first moved to Alaska.

Reece smiled easily, "she's beautiful, she's got Luke's eyes, these big blue things, she's gonna look just like him. I couldn't be happier."

Ashton chuckled, "I'm happy man, you've got that family you always wanted." He said, remembering hearing Reece talk about having a perfect family when his dad was still around and how he didn't want that life for his children. Except the fact Luke was the father of all people, a CIA agent, and together they caused some problems but it was still a family nevertheless.

"I am too." Reece sighed before he heard Luke yell him for dinner. "I've got go, Luke's made dinner."

"Alright I'll let you go." Ashton said, the two saying goodbye and hanging up. Reece put the phone in the bedside table drawer where it belonged and left the bedroom to go to the table in the kitchen where Luke now sat, baby Char entertaining herself in the play crib they had. Reece sat down opposite Luke to see he'd made spaghetti and meatballs. "Oh this looks great."

"Thank you." Luke smiled, "how was the phone call?"

"Good, Ashton will sort something out, and he asked about Charlotte."

Luke noticed Reece never really called their daughter Char and only Charlotte, probably because of his sister, "you can call her Char you know, your sister wouldn't have minded, she would have been honoured."

Reece shrugged, "just feel weird, I just know her as Char."

"We don't have to name her Charlotte, I just thought it'd be--"

"No." Reece smiled a little, "I love the name, it's just different, I have to get use to it."

Luke nodded, "okay."

The two are in silence and afterwards, Reece put their daughter to bed, caressing her small cheek and kissing her head. He went back to Luke who lay on the sofa, slumping down next to him, they didn't have a TV that played channels, only old VHS tapes so they had to entertain their selves most of the time.

Luke snuggled up to Reece's side, "I love you." Luke said, his hand on Reece's chest.

Reece kissed Luke's head, "I love you too."
