Delilah stared out of the window. They'd been driving for fifteen minutes and nothing was in sight but plain road. She had tried talking to Twan a few different times but he either gave stale answers or didn't respond.
"You know, I think you kinda stupid," Twan admitted out of nowhere.
Delilah's neck snapped back, looking at him in shock. "Excuse me?"
"I mean-" Twan scratched his neck, "First you always getting creepy ass shit delivered to you and you never know or see anything. Yeah, I heard bout it. After the first time, you could've chose to be more aware of your surroundings. Then, you trying to get out yo' relationship Gunz so you hop on the enemy nuts without even knowing he the enemy. And then, you just get in a car with a nigga who say he know your boyfriend." Twan raised his eyebrows and shrugged. "Sound like you one of them stupid hoes to me."
Delilah punched him in the side of his head, making him yelp like a Shih Tzu from the pain.
"What the fuck!" Delilah yelled. "You tryna say you not who you said you was? Nigga, I will kill you!" She reached in her purse for her switchblade. Twan was still reeling from her lick, so when the glint of the gold blade caught his eye he was thrown off guard.
"Chill, man, chill!" He yelled, swerving to miss an oncoming semi truck. Delilah held the knife at his throat.
"Tell me where we going, now!" Delilah was screaming in a shrill tone with her eyes wide. Her heart pumped as if it was trying to escape her chest. She wouldn't admit it, not even to herself, but she was scared.
"Man, we going to the safe house. It's a three bedroom Gunz them got for situations like these, just to lay low. It's another twenty minutes away. Rocky is there, and so is Haud. Call them if you don't believe me." Twan swallowed hard as the blade pressed harder across his throat. Delilah touched the screen in the center of his car and went to his contacts. She saw Rocky's name and number saved and lowered the knife.
"My bad," She mumbled.
"Naw, it's all good," Twan cleared his throat and shifted his weight in his seat. He tried to sound easygoing, he didn't want her to know she really had him sweating. "I be taking shit too far sometimes. The stupid hoe comment wasn't necessary."
Delilah looked at her hands. "You might have a point. I don't always make the best decisions for myself."
"Oh, really? So dating a notorious drug dealer was one of the good ones....or....?" Twan looked over at her. Delilah couldn't help but laugh, which made him grin a little. He thought she had a pretty smile.
"I don't look at him as the big bad Gunz. Just Gabriel." Delilah thought for a moment. "Why is this my first time seeing you?"
"I been locked up," Twan replied.
"When did you come home?" Delilah was almost surprised. He didn't look like the prison type. Twan was lightskin, skinny, with a pretty face. He was one of those boys that didn't have marks and bruises scattered around his skin. He was dressed in a Balmain T-shirt, ripped True Religion capris and a pair of Vans. Delilah blinked rapidly.
"You wearing Vans...and Balmain?"
"It's a problem?" Twan sneered, looking over at her. Delilah shook her head.
"So what were you in for?"
"Murder," Twan said bluntly, and that was the end of their conversation for about ten minutes. They drove in silence, until Delilah's phone started going off.
