I woke up on a cold metal table with my arms and legs strapped down. I trembled at the smell of the chemicals and the antiseptic cleaners. I attempted to crane my neck to glance at my surroundings only to find that it too was restrained.
I sighed in frustration and jumped when I heard a deep voice say, "Welcome back. You've been quite the little trouble maker." The familiar voice sent chills down my spine. It was Wes Fallon, one of the main scientists that put me through hell and back. He was not one of the kinder ones to put it lightly.
"I wish I could say it's nice to see you again....but then....that would require me to not hate the bane of your existence..." I spat, relishing in the fact that he had a short temper.
"Glad to see you fully awake and ready for testing!" He said through clenched teeth as he tightened my arm straps. I winced as they dug into my wrists and I silently vowed that he would be my first target when I got out of there.
I flinched when I saw Wes putting some form of blue liquid into a syringe. The same liquid that turned my gray eyes a bright shade of blue. I had seen it done so many times before but I never got used to the sensation of fear when my eyes followed the needle to my temple. Why did it have to be my head? Why couldn't they put whatever it was into my arm like a sane person would?
I winced as the needle pierced my skin . There was no telling what was in that serum. All the ones they gave me looked the same, but they sure had different effects.
This one, for example, started with an intense burning sensation. My whole body was on fire and I could feel sweat dripping onto the metal table. I began hyperventilating and my vision started fading in and out of focus.
"What....what did you do to me?" I gasped. I felt like I was suffocating.
He chuckled to himself. "You may or may not recall that those idiots that failed to capture you gave you a memory loss serum before you got away." He checked my face to see if I remembered any of it. I kept my face stone hard not wanting to give anything away to him.
"Regardless, I've just given you a little memory boost since the rookie that created the serum didn't succeed in making you forget everything. You probably have snippets of images from your past. You obviously didn't forget this lab or you wouldn't have been so eager to go into hiding." He gave a bitter smile and continued, "Oh but don't worry. It won't happen again. That opaque scientist was....taken care of and you need not worry for your precious memories.
I could only imagine what they did to that newbie scientist. "Why would you want my memory back? Isn't it to your advantage?"
"On the contrary! We need you to remember everything we've done here for...further testing." The way he said it made me uneasy. It was like he knew something I didn't. "We'd have to restart the process if you forget." His face changed into an egregious smirk. "Anyway, I'm anxious to see the results of this next particular toxin."
I gulped. "Toxin?" I couldn't hide the fear that wavered in my voice. He brought up another needle with bright red liquid in it. He didn't hold back in making it painful when he injected it into the same spot as before.
He simply laughed as the effect of it started to really take over. My whole body started seizing and I went from burning up to freezing in a matter of seconds. My vision went in and out of focus and I struggled to stay conscious. The room was spinning, causing me to become nauseous.
Then, I was no longer tied to a metal lab table. I was in an empty room with no doors. Everything was white. I spun around looking for a way out. A door appeared to my right and I ran for it, desperate to get out. Just as I reached for the handle, it disappeared, along with the rest of the door.
