Green gooey eggs.

That's what I stare at when I enter the dining hall for breakfast.

I clench my jaw and close my eyes reminding myself to be gentle with the new ones. I could never be gentle as it was. I ask for the staff who cooked my meal this morning and am silently hoping my favorite chief isn't in the mix. I didn't want him to be scolded like a 5 year old.

"Good morning everyone" I smile delightfully and workers who have been here for years gulp. The newbies smile back.
"Good morning Queen Lilith," they chant in unison.
"I was just wondering who cooked my eggs today" I say with a concerned tone.

The chiefs look at each other shaking their heads as if they didn't know. I'm tempted to roll my eyes and begin to yell but I keep myself calm.

"I did" one of the girls steps out a huge smile on her face. She is one of newbies and I can tell she's very proud of her creation.
"Well" I say raising my eyebrows "who gave you the instructions on what I like cooked in the morning?"
"Noel" she says concerned and he shoots her a look of anger.
"Did you follow the instructions?" I cock my head and watch her uncomfortably shift.
"Well I started but well it is Dr. Seuss's Birthday and I thought you would enjoy the humor."
"And what's that?"
"Green eggs and ham" she says quietly.
"What is your name dear?"
"P-penny" she stutters around for her words as she takes my expression in.
"Penny, since this is your first day here I will grant you mercy. Don't go tossing that word around although, I don't give mercy too often. Stick to the recipes in the book Penny" I say twirling a fork around in my hand.
"I will-...." I cut her off.
"Just stick to the recipes in the book Penny. Follow the rules of this kingdom, that is if you want to survive."

I look up and give her a wolfish grin, her face is pale and I see her pinching her left arm. I arise my chair and snap the fork in half for the hell of it.

I spend the rest of the day wondering the gardens. My fingers brushing over each lily, each rose, each daisy. Flowers were something my mother loved dearly. I remember by father would rather the best flowers from the south and give it to her as a gift on Valentine's Day. She loved that damn bouquet of flowers, jumping up and down like a 3 year old every year she got them.

I eat lunch by myself ordering a picnic basket to eat by a willow tree. By the willow tree I watch children on the other side of the river holding hands and laughing as if the world stopped. I find myself smiling watching the children dance around and giggle at each other. Daring one another to dip their toes into the river. I'm enjoying my day alone when 2 people talking catches my attention.

One voice is muffled a bit and it sounds like the person has been uncontrollably sobbing. The other voice is one I've learned to register as a priority. I stand to my feet brushing off the bit of sand I've gotten on my clothes and follow the voices. As I get closer the smell of yesterday burns in the air. I lick my chapped lips from how outstanding the scent was. When I get on a cobble stone path way my eyes catch a scene.

It is Penny the girl from earlier leaning against Cayson. Her voice is filled with sobs and I see her mascara running down her bright pink cheeks. Cayson looks at her sadly holding her hand and telling her something in a hushed voice. Then his perfect sculpted face leans down to hers and kisses her right on the forehead.

Hey guys! How is my book so far? I'm just letting you know that some chapters may be short, but it is for the plot of my book. Anyway don't forget to comment and vote. Enjoy :)
