BrokenBrokenBroken.
Is the first thing that flutters through my thoughts.
I stand stiffly, unable to move. The wood in the firepit crackles loudly. The smell of a strong alcohol is the only aroma this room possesses. My muscles seem to freeze, my heart skips a couple of beats.
I'm waiting for anger to sweep in with her full glory. I'm waiting for her to bubble in the pit of my stomach before erupting like a volcano. I'm waiting for the wrath of the wicked Luna.
Yet she seems frozen in place as well. As if this small draft of icy pain has left her incapable to breathe. As if the cold has frozen her over and left her do nothing more than watch. So she watches, like I.
Cayson's hands run down the girls creamy arms. Then he extends one hand back pulling at her thick honey brown hair. The girl smiles against his sweet kiss. She runs her hands through his wavy hair.
The moment she does so anger seems to wake from her moment of slumber. With her long red cape she clouds my vision. Everything is as red as the flames that flicker in the firepit. Anger clouds my rational thoughts and before I can stop I am moving. My hands are reaching to split the two apart. My claws are already extended. My teeth are ready as an assistant if needed.
I pull her hair and split the two apart. She cries in pain as she falls to the ground. When she sees me her eyes widen in panic. Drunkingly the girl begins to plead. My rational thoughts are still gone. I still see red. All attempts to stop me from delivering her death would be pointless. So without mercy I quickly snap her neck. My skin burns with electricity at the sound of the crack. I stare into her lifeless sea blue eyes, satisfactory filling every bone of mine.
"Lillllith?!" Cayson cries behind me.
I spin around tears clinging in my eyes. I'm ready to scream at him. Yet I can't as I see the state he is in. I can tell he is more drunk than her. His eyes are bloodshot and he is terribly shaky. He reaches out and takes my hand smiling when sparks flit between us.
"Cayson what have you done to yourself?" I whisper.
I can't find it in me to look at him yet, so instead I focus my eyes on the sea of littered alcohol bottles behind him. I stand still with my hand in his as he drunkingly mumbles to himself. Cayson was never known to be reckless. Yet here he is, wasted and kissing someone who's name he didn't care to ask for.
I broke him.
I turn to face him quickly wiping the tears that were pooling in my eyes. I look into his eyes and squeeze his hand harder. In those eyes that I love there is loneliness. There is longing. His sad, sad eyes are all to familiar to me. They are my eyes.
"Cayson" I say softly placing on hand on his cheek.
He leans into my touch those tipsy eyes transfixed on me. Unknowingly he smiles at me, flashing his pearly teeth. Then frowns again and stares at our linked hands. Before he can back away or say anything I bring myself in to hug him. His chest rumbles and I squeeze my eyes shut as we awkwardly hug. Our moment of sincerity is gone when he begins to drunken ramble. Lost in thoughts that probably don't matter.
What would I do with him now? I could leave him here and hope that he falls alseep. I could bring him back to the party and attempt to make him look normal. I don't think either of those options will work. One because he might do something dangerous like touch the fire while it is still burning. He also reeks of alcohol and a putrid stench. My only option is to take care of him. Guide Cayson by the hand to his room as if he were a small child. Begin a warm shower that will wash away this revolting smell and relax his muscles. Give him a glass of water to drink and then lie with him until he passes out.
I grind my teeth together and then with tense muscles I take his hand and lead him to his room. Cayson seems to be in a daze as he is confused with what is going on. I also notice how he is looking a sickly shade of light green. When we enter his room Cayson groans and flips onto his bed. I breathe slowly before enetering his bathroom to look around for a rag to warm. I find a brown baby sized towelette folded nicely under his sink. I run the towelette under the faucet and then enter back into his room.
He is not alseep yet but he seems to be sobering up a little. Still he is confused so I sit on the edge of her bed and press the rag on his forehead. He winces a little bit when the heat touches his skin. Cayson's headache is only beginning.
"The pain will only grow" I mutter.
He nods his head but doesn't look at me. We sit in an awkward silence until I excuse myself to go get a glass of water. When I return Cayson seems be officially sobering because his pupils are dilated and he looks even sicker.
"Here" I say and pass him the water " drink it. I'll leave when your done."
I bite the inside of my cheek until my mouth floods with blood when he doesn't respond. Would he ever respond to me the same? How much have I damaged him? The thought makes my head spin and the urge to force him to forgive me is so strong. I raise my hand and try to reach out to touch his face. To caress his smooth cheek until he falls into a blissful sleep.
"Don't" he warns softly and averts his eyes to mine " just don't. Just go away Lilith."
Oxygen floods in and out of my lungs. My palms begin to become moist with sweat. Our burning gaze can not be broken. The static between us begins to vibrate again. The crackling in the air that happens when we are close together. The baby hairs on the back of my neck stand up and fear conjures in the pit of my belly. The fear that this electricity in the air will combust if my hand brushes up against his. The fear that one of us, or both will be electrocuted.
But I know if I give into my flight system I will truly loose him. He will fade away from my life entirely. My body begins to tremble at the thought. I have to grind my teeth together to pull back my wants, casting away rationality.
"I'll leave now" I press softly " but I'm not going away. I'm here to stay. I'm here for you Cayson."
