that voice, jungkook rolls his eyes, its too early for me to be pissed off but here he is.

the brunette turns around and forces out a grin, though all he really wants to do was to punch the fake ass smile out of that man.

"yes xavier?" jungkook smirks at the other, whose smile twitches at the obvious mocking tone he had for him.

"captain min wants to see you at his office," jungkook could see the curiosity at the blonde's eyes. "has something to tell you, i think."

jungkook processes what xavier said, making his brows furrow. nobody gets called into the boss' office unless they fucked up or something.

he nods and walks pass the guy without a word, leaving him irritated and with the urge to kick a tree.

jungkook presses the button on the little gadget at the door and it scans his face before opening, the desk of the captain greeting him.

"jeon jeongguk!"

he flinches at the mention of his name, but smiles nonetheless.

"you wanted to see me, captain min?"

"ah," the man nods. "yes. i have something important to tell you."

jungkook bites his lip, and tries to mask his nervousness with a calm look.

even though he's considered the best in the field, not to brag, anything can still happen. he knows theyre not that stupid to let him go, but the thing he's nervous about is getting transferred to a different country.

that happened before. he did not have fun.

"i have a special case for you."

he gets handed a black, seemingly empty envelope. he opens it with a frown and took the first few papers out.

his eyes widens instantly.

"im pretty sure you heard about the ril bombing, and that gang right there is the prime suspect. inside that envelope contains all the information we gathered up to this day. not much," mr. min leans back into his chair and clicks his tongue. "theyre honestly incredibly clever and such geniuses, ill give them that. we only know names, such as bhuwakul and kryptonite. thats it.

"i know it seems too much for a detective to work on but we decided to give it a shot. youre the only one we could think of that can actually make progress in this city's whole department, if not actually catch and turn 'em over. so we decided to trust you with this, and if you come up with a positive report, youll get promoted. its a really nice promotion."

jungkook scans the papers; not much information but he'll get through. he looks up at mr. min and gave his toothy grin.

"you can count on me."

"i cant do this."

jungkook falls back on the couch, giving up. he couldnt think of anything, didnt know where to start. he cant go anywhere with this amount of research. he needs more.

"you say that about all the cases you get yet youve never failed in anything."

jungkook huffs, but loved the compliment anyways. he loved compliments so much he purposely insults himself in public just to hear people deny it and say how incredible he really is. he sits back up again and turns to his friend who sits down next to him.

"but this is different," he whines. "i love the case, i really do. its exciting, but look at these, i cant work with only these!"

"such a baby." jinyoung rolls his eyes at the younger, and takes some papers from the coffee table. he scans it, jungkook watching as he did so.

"you need to start at the gon library."

jungkook frowns, "what?"

jinyoung nodded at himself as he continued to look at the report.

"bhuwakul, i think i saw that when i was visiting hana back then. i was bored so i was scanning the log book from years ago. i think it was year 2006. just try. go there and look, you might find something."

jungkook is not expecting their conversation to go this way.

his flatmate, and closest friend actually, is a baker. a very good one, in fact. jinyoung actually wanted to be a private investigator, but his parents didnt approve of it, so he went with being a baker, what his parents wanted for him.

still, you cant deny the fact that he's a fucking genius and would make such a remarkable investigator. but he never actually helped jungkook before, since he was bitter and determined to forget about his life-long dream, so it was an understatement to be shocked since even if his hyung did know something, he wouldnt speak. he knows it by experience. it happened three times before, just because jinyoung finds it amusing and somehow funny how jungkook takes the longer way when there's an easier one.

of course, being jinyoung, he lets him suffer.

"you know," jungkook clears his throat. "theyre actually the only thinkable suspect for... for the ril bombing. the z nefari. the department is pretty sure its them."

jungkook doesnt know why he said that,

when he knows how his friend felt, feels, about that accident.

it just slipped out of his mouth before he knew it.

"what?" comes after seconds of torture silence, and jungkook stays silent, only because he didnt know what to say.

"ill help you with it then. ill photocopy all these tomorrow, do my own investigation and help you with it. its better to do it together."

jungkook couldve sworn jinyoung's voice cracked at the end, and hated himself for saying that fact when it clearly wasnt needed.

hana, jinyoung's late girl-- fiancé, was a teacher at the burned to the ground, now barely even there school. she was killed, along with a bunch of innocent people.

he can never forget how he reacted to the news, especially with the fact that they just finished finalizing their wedding plans.

jungkook, too lost in his thoughts, doesn't notice his friend getting up and leaving. he still shouts a thanks! though, his alternative to sorry. jinyoung knows that, he told himself. it was his cheap attempt to lessen the guilt.

jungkook cleans up and gets ready for bed. he would go to the library, but it was already late so he didnt bother.

he plops down on the bed with a sigh, and stares at the glow in the dark stars in his ceiling.

for some reason, this case is making him nervous.

he just doesnt want to let anyone down. not the department, not his best friend, not himself.

but wow, why is he getting a feeling that after all this, he won't be going home with only victory and/or shame in his heart?

why does it feel like this is about so much more than a gang and a bombing?
