Chapter 2
Yuri had messaged for Aurora to meet him outside the emergency exit, due to the fact that the Yuri's Angels were always lurking somewhere nearby. Aurora didn't quite understand why he wouldn't just meet up in the lobby, she was sure he had his reasons though. It had all happened so fast, just earlier they had met, then he even helped her try to skate, now they were going for dinner. Aurora still couldn't grasp why he even agreed, although as busy as he is there wouldn't be much time to make many friends. It must be a bit lonely for him, a feeling she understood well. Going out the emergency exit, Aurora found Yuri standing there whilst looking at his phone. "Sorry I had to sneak away from my family." Aurora spoke, gripping the strap to her purse. "It's fine, we better hurry though!" Yuri stated, putting his sunglasses on. "Trying to hide from your fans?" Aurora chuckled, it was obvious that he was trying to hide his identity. "Believe me, they are crazy..." He spoke in exhaustion. "From what I have heard they are quite dedicated," she added; starting to walk in the way of the restaurant. "Yeah let's go with that..." He sighed, Aurora just smiled.
Taking Yuri to one of the only restaurants she knew, the two ended up having a lot of fun talking. Yuri found himself having a real connection with her, he was surprised how much the two of them had in common. Like him she really hated being treated like a kid even though she wasn't. They both had a love of cats and fashion, not to mention she was honest and said what she felt instead of what others wanted to hear. He never before found talking to someone so natural, especially a girl. Aurora really loved how excited he got talking about something he liked. Seeing him smile so genuinely seemed like such a rare thing, talking to him she felt like she got to see a side to him that most don't. He was really amazing, even at such a young age he was so determined that he moved from Moscow to St. Petersburg all on his own to begin rigorous training. No matter what happened to him he never lost sight of his goals, never getting discouraged or feeling like giving up; no he just worked even harder. "I don't know how you do it..." Aurora smiled gently. "Do what?" Yuri asked, taking another sip of his drink. "How you have such faith in yourself, how you never let the pressure get to you; it's such a strong quality you have." Yuri felt his cheeks get hot, guzzling down more of his drink. "It's not like I never let it get to me... I get frustrated easily, but I just use that as fuel to work that much harder." Yuri answered, feeling a little odd that he admitted that. "I think that is really amazing, I envy that quality." Aurora grinned; Yuri didn't know what it was about this girl, she just had a way of seeing things, things that mattered.
After dinner the two walked back to the hotel. "Good luck tomorrow, I will be cheering for you!" Aurora stated with a smile. "Aren't you supposed to be cheering for your cousin?" Yuri asked with a hint of derision. "We were closer when we were kids, but as he got older and his ego kept growing, now he ends up teasing me more than anything. I'm seen as the black sheep of the family, which is why I'm not big on family gatherings. If I'm being completely honest... I only came because I wanted to watch you skate again..." Aurora blushed, a bit mortified that she actually said this out loud. Yuri's eyes widened, completely caught off guard. "I can't believe I just told you that, but at least you can understand why I would be cheering for you then right?" Aurora grinned, trying to cover how embarrassed she was. Yuri felt his heart race again, "well thanks then..." It wasn't unusual that girls would come watch him preform, but Aurora was different. She wasn't annoying like his fans could be, in fact she talked to him like he was just a normal person. He had never met a girl more down to earth and real. An odd feeling crossed him, he wanted to get to know her better, to talk more.
Even after they went their separate ways for the evening, they continued to message each other. Yuri complained how Yakov and Lilia were driving him crazy, Aurora would do the same about her family. They kept teasing her about how her date went, clearly JJ couldn't keep his big mouth shut either. Aurora asked if there was anything he wanted to see while he was here. Not sure he asked what she thought was fun, her response being that she liked the Aquarium, that they had polar bears as well. Yuri thought that sounded cool, asking if she wanted to go after the short program tomorrow. Aurora was thrilled, the fact that he wanted to spend time with her meant the world to her. The feeling she kept trying to bury however was surfacing more and more. The thought of this being a date couldn't help but enter her mind. Burying her face in her pillow, feeling her own hot breath heat up her cheeks even more; how stupid could she possibly be? She really did like Yuri, more and more with every conversation they had. What on earth could she hope to accomplish though? After all it's not like there could be a future here, even if they were becoming friends. He lived on another continent, not to mention it was almost a 12-hour time difference between them. For now though, she wanted to enjoy whatever this was for however long it could possibly last.
