Sam butterfield knew he was driving his car like a haywire. He knew very well that anyone in their right mind would stay out of the slippery road in this snowy blizzard but he had to get to him....He had to get to his son! The call yesterday from Jacqueline scared the pigment out of him and now he's all pale.....
He gave a quick glance at the back seat to see his new wife and child huddled close. He wasn't sure whether they had their belts on but his wife told him to watch the road....not before he took a sharp turn and the car skidded. Sam didn't scream as the car went down the hill slope, dragging both occupants at the back!! He didn't have time too but one thought came to mind that time.....
'Im sorry Asa'
................................................................
Hailee watched as I did the routine job of changing towels for Asa's forehead to heat up rather than be stone cold. He laid on the couch like a prince in a sleeping spell, his chest rising and falling with accuracy. Sometimes, he would toss and turn and murmur a word or two that I always missed to hear. He had been like that since yesterday morning.....and I was getting worried.
I had told Hailee about the diary and Nico and all and I knew I spooked the girl enough. But she told me maybe it was the wind or something but she didn't sound convinced of it. I pass that subject and Payton came to check on him and I tried to be nice to her.....but really....she ignored me.
"I thought you were his bestssssfriend", she stressed the word out to my annoyance. "You were suppose to look after him. Guess, you're not his savior like he is to you, huh?"
At that moment, I wanted nothing more than to go over and slap Payton across the face but one look from Hailee warned me otherwise and I stayed where I was, listening to the idiot complaining and complaining about the thick snow and how it ruined her good sleep, me, her modeling work and whatever she could complain about. You name it and she does it.
It was a good thing the pathetic creature didn't stay quite long and she left....without sympathy or feeling. She didn't acted like a responsible girlfriend, she acted like a very impatient nurse who had came to check on one's patient! Hailee sighed in disgust. And then.....
"You're fond of him, aren't you?"
I stared at Hailee, pretending to not understand her question. "What!"
"You like him...".
"That's crazy. No...I.."
"How long do you thing you can hide it from me".
Hailee sounded hurt. Maybe she thinks I don't trust her.
"I....it's only a crush Hal".
"I'm your friend. You can tell me anything". She sounded very convincing in this matter! Who wouldn't! Especially girls....it's in our genes!
"Like I told you...it's a crush", I said. "Nothing more".
"Really?" Hailee stopped for suspense. I sighed.
"He....well...I think he...likes you. Like a lot!"
I blushed red and tried to hide my smile. Asa likes me? That jerk likes me?
"What do you mean?" I casually asked.
"That first day he saw you in the music room, I saw his face lit up in a way in never before did! It was so.....well it's....happiness, you know".
She jumped off the stool and came to sit beside me on the blanket covered floor of the library. I listened as she continued..
"Ever since you arrived here, Asa's been so different. Joyous, fun and all. You know him well, don't you?
I nodded my head.
"Actually, I know you way earlier before you came to London. How can I not?"
I saw Hailee began tearing up and her voice cracked.
"He always speaks of you. Fellisa Van Dot, a traveling girl who travels everywhere. The girl who thinks that she needed him but really...it was he who needs her. Asa was...he was so detail of you. He said you always made him laugh just like that...like breathing. And it doesn't take much effort. He calls you his....".
Hailee wiped the spilling tears on her cheek hastily. "Sorry. I shouldn't..."
"It's okay to cry", I said gently, wanting her to tell more.
"You know? He was angry at you for leaving after 6 months staying here. He missed you so much, he admits trying to chase you in his dreams but couldn't seem to catch you. He was alone.....he had been.....for a long time".
It was my turn to cry like a child but I let my tears fall anyway. My heart broke into two! It broke! He did remembered! After all those years, he has been remembering them and in turn suffering because I wasn't there.
"Asa told you this?" I asked.
Hailee shook,leaned in closer and...
"He talked in his sleep. He always does it....".
I gazed back to a sleeping Asa but somehow, it looks like he's in a coma. NO!! I don't want him to die....not like this....there's some things I need to solve.
The twin doors to the library banged open and Morgan stood there, his eyes red and puffy like he'd been crying for a long time. He tried to talk normally but his voice cracked.
"There's been an accident!"
.........................................
I looked all around, trying to figure where exactly I was. Everywhere was dark and fog swirled round and in between my legs. I thought I saw my father and I ran after him, calling desperately....
"Dad! Dad!!"
But then the figure disappeared in the fog and I was motionless, hearing my own echoes..a figure ran passed me, giggling and turned around, alarmed.
"Marlie?"
She can't be running. He'll, she shouldn't be walking or talking but the next word that came out made my blood froze in my veins.
"Bipasha..." The girl whispered, giggled and ran off, leaving me alone again. I thought I can hear her voice...but it was much deeper and then I saw him.
Nico! He was right there! Thank god!
I ran to him but I can't pass through. Nico shook his head, pointing behind.....and I dared not make a sound.
