"Dr. Greene, she's disabled the fastest one we had. It's hopeless," the other said feebly.
"No, Miss Carter, it's not," we still have the monstrosity in the cage behind us."
I could barley hear them by this point. My stomach was aching. I was getting restless. I could feel my sanity leaking out of my brain. Vision was blurring, my stomach was growling with anticipation of something edible crossing my path.
"Get under the desk, he can't see you, Dr.Greene," Miss Carter was in tears.
Then I saw light. The light, it lit up my world with hope that I was going to live through it all. I had forgotten about the girl that was doing so before. Now my hunger drove me. It drove me through that door and skidded me to the hallway.
All the while, I heard a faint whisper come from Miss Carter. She said it through shaky breaths and sobs, "I'm sorry she's done this, baby."
I shot through hallways faster than light. All until I hit a sent. The sent of something familiar and something new. One was small, the other larger. I finally reached it. I didn't stop until I saw it.
A small boy holding onto a young woman. The boy turned and pointed at me. The woman was called to attention. I naturally went for the one with more meat. It would be a struggle but I still had energy to get to her.
The boy watched me pin her up against a wall. He froze in terror for a split second before pulling out a sticklike object. When he jabbed it into my side, I realized it was a knife.
I screeched and recoiled in pain. But the screech didn't exactly sound human. It was more like an ear piercing, hawklike one. The woman then proceeded to dive out of the way.
I picked up a strange sent from her. It was faint. But it was there. The kind of sent I'd picked up around Miss Carter. Regret.
The regret was quickly filled with rage as she attempted to jab something into me. I dodged the syringe she was wielding with ease. She was weak.
I jumped and held onto a ceiling light that swung with my weight. This confused her. She didn't know where I was. So I took advantage and got behind her. Kicking her down, my stomach and I began to attack her further. Before I could, something stopped me, the damn kid again.
"Amber!" He said. I froze in my tracks.
