I went ahead and threw the stuffed rabbit in the washer. Hopefully the damn thing wouldn't tear it apart. I then want to the teen at the desk to ask for blankets. Her name was Lidia she'd been my friend for a short time. We usually had the same lunch break.
She smiled as I approached, "sup, Amber. What do ya need?" She rested her head on her hand and looked up with a large grin, "you finally meet a dude yet?"
Only she hadn't gotten the message through her thick skull. The topic of love was always sensitive to me. Luckily, she had been my friend. I would have beaten her senseless otherwise. Instead, I threw her a glare.
"Blankets and a pillow. I got a kid stayin' with me 'till they clean the apartment out for 'em remember?"
"Oh yeah! Sorry, so many people come and go that I completely forget things."
"I told you that you shouldn't have taken this job. Your memory loss is something out of a storybook."
She giggled, "yeah, whatever. I'll have your request up to your room in about twenty minutes. Oh, and do you need new clothes for that kid? It looked like you guys cut through a swamp to get here."
I rolled my eyes, "ha ha. Yes..."
She giggled some more after I thanked her and strolled off. I made my way back up the stairs and down to my room. I entered to find that the kid was still in the shower. I decided to just sit and read a book until I got another call on the earpiece.
Luckily for me, I went a full two hours before a cheery voice called. "Amber!" It exclaimed, "I think I'm close! Come here!" It beeped to signal that the call had ended.
My eyes lit up as I ran to bang on the bathroom door. "Hurry up, bud. We gotta place to be."
Luckily, the sound of water had stopped. But he still spent so long in there. He opened the door and looked up.
"Rabbit?" He said, extending his hand.
I chuckled at him. "He's not ready yet. He's still drying."
He looked down a bit, "okay, where are we going?"
"The lab. It's where we try and figure out a cure for altercation. I've got a friend that works there. I think you'll like her," I smiled.
He clutched onto my hand, "let's go then."
The clothes Lidia gave him didn't fit him well. He kept tripping over the jeans she'd given him and he kept scratching at his collar.
"You alright, bud?" I asked.
He peered at me, "itchy."
"Let's find you some clothes that fit better when we get back, mkay ?"
He nodded.
I walked the rest of the way there with a gleam of hope in my eyes.
