Amber

This was the most disgusting thing I had seen so far. It looked in pain but at the same time like it wanted to enslave the human race. It's tongue shot at me as it charged. I pulled the both of us away in time for it to miss. It couldn't stop. This was conveyed to me when it smashed into the wall behind us. It got up and shook its head to recover. That meant it was fast. A little too fast. Well I guess it was in testing for a reason.
It turned, with me expecting it to charge again. However it just shot its tongue out again. It licked me. LICKED! I spent some time wondering why it didn't just encase me with it when a pins and needles sensation was felt within the area it had violated. That turned to a warmer feeling. Then hotter. Hotter. HOTTER! It was burning my skin like it was oil. The damn thing had a poison at the end of it.
"Ribbit," it cocked its head and charged again. Noah moved out of the way easily. I however had a hard time but I managed to barely make it. It was too god damn fast, and its poison made me slower which made it FASTER!
It slammed into the wall next to me. Recovering quick, it shot its tongue out. I was beginning to notice a pattern. Then, BAM! Poison. My vision was blurring. Noah was a peach colored blob in the corner. The thing was a black blob. When I noticed the blobs were getting closer to each other, my strength came back. I stood, wobbling the whole way over to them.
My shaky hand struggled to reach the syringe of 'almost antidote' before it jabbed the tongue of the creature just as it was going for Noah. Luckily, I stood in the way of it so the shaking child behind me wasn't harmed.
Just like the others, it dropped to the ground.
"Don't touch the kid," I heaved out before dropping myself.
While at its level, it looked up. Something other than "ribbit" came from its mouth, "you're better at protecting others I see."
"That's right, Amber," Trenton inspected the target I had shot at. "One bullseye. But that's great. You've showed growth. Soon you'll be great at protecting others." He ruffled my hair.
"I could still be better," I mumbled.
"You'll be fine with enough practice, Amber. Just be patient."
"Fine... I'm still not as good of a shot as you."
"Trust me, you'll get better, kid."
"Amber!" Noah shouted in tears, "Amber, wake up!"
"Hm?" I sat up feeling cold and wet. The burning sensation went away but multiple water bottles were on the ground. The bag I had felt lighter. I concluded that Noah had used most of our water supply to rid my skin of the poison. We seemed to be in a different area too. Rather than an intersection, we were in a smaller room.
I sat up and was instantly encased by the ten year old's grasp. I blushed a little when he mumbled the words into my sweatshirt. I hugged back as a response to them.
              "You'd make a great mom."
