She skipped through the long grass meadow,
In the warmth of the evening sun,
On the fringe of a quaint little market town,
The harvest had almost begun.
The trees were at their most luscious then,
The lark soared above in full flight,
The wild flowers bloomed in all colours,
As they brushed past her dress of pure white.
And Mother sat there on the blanket,
With a picnic to have for their tea,
There were sandwiches, cake and fresh lemonade,
As the girl shouts: "Oh do wait for me!"
She hurried when smelling the fresh scones and jam,
Baked this morning by Granny with care,
But rushing on back through the meadow,
The girl caught her dress with a tear.
"Oh no!", she exclaimed in annoyance and fear,
One hates such a nuisance, such farces,
The idyllic image is breaking,
As off come those rose tinted glasses.
"Oh Mummy my dress, my beautiful dress,
It's torn, it's ripped, what a shame!"
"Don't worry darling, no matter,
I'm sure that Primark will exchange."
"Now come on and sit - here's your IPhone,
and be quiet I'm texting so Shush!"
"But Mummy - ", "I'm not listening darling,
now behave and play Candy Crush!"
"Have a sandwich, to keep your mouth busy,
Processed salmon or fake cheese with 'fresh' chives?"
As the smog descends on the meadow,
With the roar of the M25.
A cloud now engulfs the warmth of the sun,
The phones absorb worries and cares,
As mother sits there in her own little world,
And the kids sit alone in theirs!
