Austin's POV

"Tanya, why are you showing me this?" I asked her. We were in my hospital room and we're watching Lucas hold my hand.

"Because you need to see how much damage you're doing to your mate."

"He's n-"

"Don't even finish that sentence." She said sternly.

I sighed out and she sat down beside Lucas. "How could you not want him to be his mate, he's hot."

"I'm into girls, that's why."

"Not anymore, you're into your mate now. You're not interested in girls or boys, just your mate. Your mate should be all you see, regardless of gender." She told me.

I looked away and she scoffed. "Okay, since you're all in your feelings, I'm going to go."

"Wait, you're leaving me here?" I asked.

"Yes, Austin, it's time you learn some manners."

She left and I looked at Lucas. He was still sitting there holding my hand and I didn't know why. I rejected him, I hate him, he knows this but still he shows up and holds my hand.

His eyes were red and puffy and he has dark circles under his eyes. He kinda looks like me and that's absolute crap.

I awkwardly patted his head and Lucas giggled. It was actually kinda adorable. He sniffed and wiped his nose and got up. We were facing each other and I patted his back. He made a confused face but he did look calmer.

"Go home and get some rest." I told him.

He walked out of the room and I followed him. He left the hospital and Taylor walked in holding his son's and holding his daughter's hand and Roxanne was with him holding her daughter's hand.

They walked into my room and Fiona ran to my side.

"Will Uncle Austin be okay?" She asked.

"Of course honey, he's an alpha and alphas always heal quicker than everyone else." Taylor replied.

"That is if he cleans up his act." Roxanne said.

"Rox," Taylor warned.

She held up her hands and said, "I'm just saying."

Taylor sighed and the two five year old twins were playing with each other.

"Fiona, mommy and I are going to be outside the door, don't let the twins mess with anything."

"Okay Daddy."

They left and I followed.

"He looks worse." Taylor pointed out.

"I don't know how, Lucas has been here all night and day. He just left to go home but as soon as he wakes up, he's coming back."

"I don't know why. It's like he keeps rejecting him while he's unconscious."

"He can't die, that'll kill his family and Lucas."

"What do you think we should do?" Taylor asked.

"You need to become alpha. If he keeps doing this, he will die. And it's not like you haven't been running the pack lately." Roxanne suggested.

"If we do this, then Austin's dad has to take it from him and give it to me."

"Okay. If he's not better in the next week, he's not alpha anymore, even if he's still alive." Roxanne said sternly.

I gasped and the two couple walked back in the room. Tanya appeared and she leaned against the wall.

"Being alpha means everything to me. I can't not be alpha, it's not in my blood to be anything else." I said.

"Remember when Karen was still living here and her mate and family was getting inducted in the pack?" She asked.

"Yeah, why?" I asked back.

"You gave the knife to Karen and said, 'I don't want to be alpha anymore.' What changed your mind?"

"Easy, she got kicked out."

"So her getting kicked out made you want to be alpha again? Austin don't get me wrong but you weren't the best alpha. Hate and revenge drove you to be alpha. Like it or not, Taylor is more suited to be alpha because he doesn't let emotion deter his judgement."

"And also he doesn't have a male mate."

"No because you're too busy thinking through a tunnel. If you want to be alpha, prove it. Clean up your damn act and take ownership of your pack. This is your family, make them proud. Because although some are upset, the majority doesn't care because the alpha they knew, died a hell of a long time ago when he first found his mate."

"Five years ago." I whispered.

"Exactly." She moved off the wall and came face to face with me. "Austy, I still love you with all my heart, but you have got to let go and learn to love and appreciate those around you. Your sister has, why can't you?"

I looked down and she kissed my cheek. "Wake up Austin, you don't need me here anymore."

"Yes I do. Please don't leave me again."

"Trust me, you don't. And I know you'll listen to me."

"How?"

"Cause I'm the only one who you'll listen to. Bye Austin."

"Wait, when will I see you again?"

"You won't see me, but I'll see you." She winked and walked away.

A tear fell from my eye and I straightened my back and walked to my room. I got back into my body and opened my eyes.

Roxanne gasped and Taylor looked shocked.

"Hey dude, do you need anything?" Taylor asked.

"Water." I was able to rasp out.

He rushed to get me some water and Fiona smiled.

"Uncle Austin, you're awake!"

I smiled and she hugged me.

"Hi Fi."

"I told Lucas you were awake, he should be here any moment." Roxanne told me.

"Okay." I replied quietly.

Taylor came back and the pack doctor was behind him.

"Hello Alpha, how do you feel?" He asked. I grabbed the water and drank it and looked at him. "Weak."

"That is normal considering the amount of painkillers you swallowed. We were able to get them all out of your body but you are going to be weak for a few days."

"I need to get back to work." I said.

"Aus, did you hear what he just said? You're going to be weak for a few days. You're not in any condition to run the pack."

"I'm alpha and have been failing my people. It's time for me to take back the position I own."

For all purposes, Austin was in a coma for a week. Time needs to pass.
