Plot:
If you choose to go with Freya - She ran from her home (Trikru) as a teen, when they threw her away for being pregnant. The child was a man's whom the clan killed for treason as he helped Azgeda in fight against them. They suspected Freya helped him as well since they were lovers and planned on killing her as well. However, when they found out she's expecting a child, they settled only with banishing her. She fled to Flokru where she gave birth to a baby. When Alie will get on Luna's boat, her child will be killed which is why she will decide to go with Octavia and others back to Polis to get revenge.
If you choose to go with Gail - He ran from his home (Trikru) because of an Azgeda girl he loved after he got in a fight with his parent who banned him from marrying her. Maybe he could also be set to marry someone else for political purposes. But on their run his girlfriend was killed so he reached Luna's boat alone. He became a good friend with Luna and accompanied her when Skypeople came. However, he won't agree with Luna's approach to ignore what's happening around them and will decide to go back to fight Alie with Octavia and co.
With Freya's/Gail's relationship with Octavia, at first she will be suspicious of her/him and be reserved, keeping her facade after Lincoln's death. But eventually she/he will manage to crack those walls and she/he will realize she/he have a lot in common with Octavia with Octavia realizing the same. She/He will be the first person Octavia will be vulnerable around.
When Freya/ Gail will come to Polis they will have to face her/his parent again and their interactions will be at first rocky, but just the time will tell if it can be mended. Also their clan won't be happy to see them again, especially beside Skaikru.
