Chapter 2; Tears of Abandonment
_______________________________________________________________________________________
The Gods and Goddesses above and below this Mortal Plane of their beloved Western Civilization were clueless to the happenings that will come forth with a startling heart wrenching discovery, their immortality, limitless intelligence, and all seeing abilities be damned.
No one but two mortals, the Grey Sisters Wasp, Anger, and Tempest, the Fates, and the Spirit of Delphi knew what was destined to be next. What will happen to a certain ravenette. But like the great Immortals of Greece, the two mortals knew not the evil, the true horrendous curse that lurked just beneath the innocent child's skin.
A boat just docked in the New York Harbor, and in an instant a middle aged Hispanic woman stomped off, in her grip, a little dark haired girl being hastily dragged by the wrist. The little nine or so girl looked pained by the sheer strength used in the grip. Her left hand was turning purple, the mere sight made the small girl cringe and shudder more.
But the old hag continued to scowl in her own thoughts not even minding the thought the child was pained; as she darted through the streets, avoiding buggies, and people with ease. The small child behind her tripping over her footing trying to keep up.
Finally after 'walking' for thirty minutes did the woman stop. The little one couldn't even feel her left arm now, but stayed silent knowing simply complaining will get her punished. Mutely the malnourished child stared down at the dirt floor, panting, hungry, and just so tired. The woman stared down at the child, nose crinkled and eyes twinkling with disgust and a victorious emotion.
"Now listen here demon." The woman sneered, her accent rich, you could tell she was more atune to Spanish. "Thy will stand here and wait. A Family wished to adopt thee and we agreed this position will be where they pick ye up at." The lies came smoothly, a bit too easily for such a religious woman.
The little girl's eyes began to shimmer, a hopeful glimmer entering her royal blue orbs. A family? Someone wanted her? Tears gathered to the forefront of the little one's eyes. Joy guided her heart to a light, and strong beat. 'Someone wanted me!' thoughts of joy circled that one line.
She ignored the scowl and disdainful look the Head Matron sent her. Or the victorious glimmer that entered the woman's dark eyes as the daylight retreated and a splotch of rain clouds gathered up ahead.
The poor thing didn't even think to question why a family wished to adopt her, a family established on the other side of the country. Or why the meeting area was a dirty entrance of one of the many dead-end alleyways.
None of those small details mattered to the child. All she cared for was that someone WANTED HER. A 'thing' hated since the day of her birth. A 'demon' seemingly forever cursed to be alone, uncared for, and hated.
She nodded in understanding, not trusting her voice, anyways she has been told the sound of her voice was disgusting and especially hated by the Head Matron. She didn't want to anger the woman more as she was finally giving her a family.
The Woman's snarl grew in size, eyes gleaming with hatred as she barked out once more what the little one was to do. Do not move from this spot. Rain, Winds, Blizzards be damned. Hunger and sleep do not matter. Do NOT move from this entrance.
The child nodded once more in understanding, her one toy, an old worn teddy bear clutched to her chest, and a black and bronze locket that will never open on her neck hidden underneath the top of her dress.
