Thor held the door open for Amara as they both stepped out. The sky had become partly cloudy since she arrived at the mansion.
Thor scanned the sky."You certainly picked a good day to come. The weather is great."
Amara concurred with a nod. "I wouldn't mind if it rained. I love the sun and rain."
They walked down the steps onto the driveway. They saw people were scattered all over the grounds.
Thor looked over at her. "So besides being a beautiful nature lover, what else can I know about you besides the fact you're probably an American vacationer or expatriate?"
"The accent gave it away, huh?" Amara simpered when she heard Thor's deep laugh. "I am an American and raised in New York. My grandparents were from the Caribbean so my family is Black Carib, Garifuna. I speak English predominantly but I can speak Garifuna and Yoruba, but that's usually at family gatherings."
"Wow." Thor reached into his pocket and got his phone. "So I was wondering can you sign my book?"
Amara looked over and saw her on the cover of a book called Essential Beauty.
She covered her face. "Oh, my God. How?"
"My father googled you."A shocked laugh escaped Amara's mouth.
"I told him about you after the party."
"What does he think?"
"He said I was a terrible Prince Charming."
"Oh, my God," she repeated. She started to giggle.
"So you're an author as well as a businesswoman," he said, shaking his phone.
"I am. Did you actually buy it?"
He shrugged."I wanted to read it and it's quite illuminating. I didn't know essential oils were multi-purpose."
"Yep, they're very...essential."
Thor laughed. "I see what you did there."Amara flashed a smile. "I tried so many popular products in high school because they were what other people used. My mom persuaded me to switch to natural."
"If I may ask, what is the business you have in England?"
"A couple of interviews and photoshoots. I just finished a collaboration with a YouTuber for those past days."
"Wow. How do you like it here? In general."
"I love it. It's like New York with different accents."
"I've only been to New York a few times."
"So you know something about me. Now onto you, Mr. Wildlife Preservation."
Thor looked at her curiously. How did you know? Amara saw the question in his gaze.
"You also googled me," Thor asked, flattered.
She shrugged her shoulders. "Seemed only fair."
"The party we were at was for the company I work for. My family and I traveled the world a lot. I saw a lot of natural landmarks. Now two decades later, they're fading. If I can contribute to help keep them around for our children to see, I'm gonna do it..""That's very noble."
"Well, I am a nobleman."Amara winked, pointing a finger gun gesture at Thor. "Ah, I see what you did there."
The sound of Alvin barking made them turn their heads. He ran towards them, his tongue hanging out with glee. A pang of guilt hit Thor as he forgot about Alvin when he saw Yman. He looked over at her and smiled at the beautiful woman who sparkled with childlike happiness. Her arms were opened wide, letting the dog in her space.
