Chapter Two
After some persuasion, I agreed to go with Sam. He left me time to pack an get my affairs in order with the instruction that he would be back at midnight in two days time. Those two days past in what felt like two minutes and I was now out to face me parents, or rather my imminent doom.
The car drive is six hours just to get to the entrance of the forest. Sam's car is black, symboling the region he lives in. Black for dark and white for light. We aren't the most creative of societies. Sam seems nice enough though, so the drive won't be too bad. He doesn't pry like so many I know. Most of the town knows me as 'the crazy girl' and I can't go many places with out a few stares. When I was sixteen I decided I was going to try and find my parents myself. I snuck out I the middle of the night, leaving a note to the roommate I had at the time. I took a bus out to the city limits and then walked the 2 miles it took to reach the start of the forest. At the front is a house used to train people on how to face the creatures that live in the forest. Technically it is against the laws the gods set for me to enter the forest before I was eighteen years old, so I walked a ways a way from the house and entered the fires from there. Trying to get through that forest was the hardest thing I've ever done, and I didn't succeed in getting through. I won't go into to much detail because it's hard for me to talk about, but I was only there two days, and I'm sure even hell isn't as bad.
I must have fallen asleep sometime during the drive without realizing. When I wake up we are still driving and the sun is just peaking up over the hills. He looks over at me.
"You barely slept go back to sleep we still have three hours" he looks concerned but not tired. I normally sleep for five hours and get up at this time so no big deal.
"This is when I normally get up" I tell him and smile. He raises his eyebrows at me.
"What so you have a job or something?" As he says this it looks like the idea is just dawning on him. I laugh a little.
"No. I go for my morning run." Now he looks confused.
"This early?"
"I go because...well there aren't as many eyes." I say shrugging my shoulders.
"Awe. Fame isn't all it adds up to be?" I can't help but laugh at this.
"I guess not." He smiles at my response, all the while keeping his deep blues eyes on the road. I watch the road to and try not to drool over him. God he's gorgeous! Every once in a while I see his eyes glance over at me, as if he can't believe I'm not asleep. Guess he's just as suspicious of people as I am.
Cold dread washes over me as the car pulls in the drive and I see those menacing trees looming over me. I will never understand why my parents wanted to live in this place. I guess they like shadows, and nightmares, and viscous beasts. I will never understand their decision, but they can't change it and neither can I. I don't even know if I want them to change their minds! I just want to have them back. What if they don't want me back?
Thinking about this now won't help me get anywhere. I just want to know why. Why they left me all alone when I was only thirteen. I guess I'll find out soon enough.
"Get your bags and then we can both rest. We won't start training until tomorrow." He finishes. I can't help but think I heard wrong.
"We?" I raise my eyebrows and try not to sound rude. "You mean I?" Sam chuckles a little before replying
"Nope I meant we! I'm you trainer Lilah!" Great! Now at least I know the trainer! I think to myself.
I get out and pull my bags out of the trunk of his black Camaro. Turning around I face the giant two story building that I will be staying. The outside is made of one-way glass that reflects the surroundings. It looks more like a giant hotel than a training facility. Off to the side I see an Olympic style pool with a wood deck and a wood paneled pool house.
"The ground floor is for training. There's a gym, a room with mats for sparing, a target room for knife throwing, and a library for studying. You will need to know which plants are poisonous and which animals can be killed using which weapons. The top floor is housing. You will have your own room, there a kitchen, common area and game room. I'm technically your trainer doctor and chef, so I hope you trust me." Sam informs me before stepping into the building.
Well, here goes nothing.
