The castle stood proudly. It's walls sat tiredly in the darkness. The wind howled away, singing an eerie midnight chorus.Whistles serenading the trees, and huge gusts forced the water on the black lake to ripple and dance.
It was just after dinner, and students were slinking up to, and down towards, their dormitories for rest.
Albus Dumbledore sat at his desk, his head engrossed in a knitting magazine.
Severus Snape was not happy, he wasn't in a good mood at the best of times, granted, but that particular evening... the dreaded bat of the dungeons was a very, VERY angry man......"What do you think you are doing Albus? Have you not brought enough stress to my meaningless life?" Professor Snape boomed, his hands firmly placed on the old mans desk in a threatening manner.
"Severus, what are you going on about dear boy?" Dumbledore sighed, genuinely confused by what was going on.
"Don't play innocent with me Albus, I know that this is down to you! Do you think I haven't seen her? Of course I have! Now, I don't know exactly what it is that you're plotting, but whatever it is... stop." Snape growled angrily.
"Seen who? Severus, calm down dear boy! Let's discuss this calmly.... like adults. I know that we can sort the issue out, whatever it is." The headmaster suggested innocently, but with enough of a serious tone to put the potions master back in his place.
"I will not sit down, and I will not discuss this like adults because clearly, you're having a bit of fun at my expense." The potion master hissed.
Dumbledore put his head in his hands defeatedly, before cracking his neck and returning his attention to the dungeon bat.
"Severus, who is it exactly that you have seen?"
"The red head. Oh, you know the one! new to Gryffindor house? Seems to go by the name of Lily if any of the dunderheads are to be believed. The one with Bright green eyes, and cherry red lips... ring any bells?" Snape cried, his anger slowly turning into pure disbelief and anxiety.
"Ahh... you are referring to Miss Valance. Severus there are other girls named Lily in the world. You do realise that?"
"Of course I do Albus I'm not an idiot! But the girl looks just like her! You cannot call this a coincidence, so I will ask you again... what. are. you. plotting?" Snape demanded, his temper slowly coming back to bite.
"I'm plotting nothing dear boy, and besides, the girl's name is Lilliana Valance not lily Evans. Now, Severus unless you have a genuine issue to sort out could you please leave me to my knitting?"
Snape couldn't believe the audacity of the headmaster, he had mixed feelings about him for most of his life. Partly, he respected the old man and cared for him as a friend, but there was always a niggle inside his soul telling him that Albus Dumbledore, was not to be trusted.

"Professor Snap' 'ave you seen 'er?" Hagrid beamed as the potion master stormed past. "If you're referring to the red head, yes I bloody well have seen her."
"She don' 'alf look the spit 'o Lily, I tho' I woz seein' things!" Hagrid chuckled excitedly.
Snape shot him a venomous glare and the hairy half giant decided it was time to remove his foot from his own mouth.
"Oh! Sorry 'bout 'that... I weren't thinkin' tha' all."
"Are you in on this too? You overgrown waste of excessive follicles!" Snape sneered.
