"Life isn't fair all of the time.." Liliana's words echoed in his head long after they had parted. 'She deserves so much more than my feeble excuse about rule breaking.' Snape groaned.

He couldn't sleep, all he could think about was her. Her hair, those emerald eyes.. her selflessness.

She was reminding him of Lily more than ever, although this time it wasn't hatred and anger he was feeling.
It was longing, true unadulterated longing.

Although It pained him so much, he just couldn't set himself up to be hurt again. In his mind that's what would happen anyway. She was far too beautiful and kind for him.

If she knew his secrets, his past as a death eater.. Merlin, she would probably just smile about it, and tell him it didn't matter because that's who she was, forgiving, excepting, understanding.

He vowed to himself that though he couldn't allow himself to love her, he would protect her, support her and adore her. She would never have to search for a friend. 'I won't mess it up this time.'

"Lil? what's happened are you alright?!" Hermione soothed, spotting the tears in Liliana's eyes. "Yes, I'm fine." The red head smiled, as usual deflecting away from her problems selflessly.

"It doesn't look that way.. is this about your potion? It's Snape isn't it?" Hermione pushed, dragging Lil into the dormitory to talk in private.

"We kissed a few weeks ago Hermione, and when he smelt my potion and realised it was him he kissed me again."

"You two have kissed? Oh Merlins saggy ballsack." Hermione scoffed, shaking her head. "I'm happy for you! I just can't quite believe it."

"After he kissed me he told me he can't be with me, so it was over before it began." Liliana sobbed, "that toad! messing you around like that!" Hermione seethed, her lip curled up on one side in anger.

"It's ok Hermione, we're still friends!"
"Friends? With someone who plays with your heart? What kind of friendship is that Lil? No, don't waste your friendship on him. He's made you cry." Hermione demanded, unimpressed by her friends devotion.

"Hermione, I love you I really do but this is between Severus and myself." Liliana scowled.
Hermione watched hopelessly as her pal grabbed a towel and headed off for a shower.

"Where are you?! You filthy little slug!" Hermione spat as she barged into the potions classroom, "Miss Granger, I was trying to sleep before I was rudely interrupted, Now get out!" He boomed, slinking into the classroom wearing only a pair of black sweatpants.

Hermione blushed and looked him up and down before slamming her eyes shut and straightening herself out. "I want a word and I shall not be leaving until I get one."

"Fine, then you'll get one... LEAVE!" He hissed, coming closer to her threateningly. "I meant me having a word, you absolute haemorrhoid!" Hermione groaned, slamming her butt on to his desk.

"Get on with it.." he drawled, becoming more and more annoyed by her presence.

"How could you hurt Liliana like that? She's in bits because of you! I think you owe her an apology and then you should keep your game playing oversized beef nose away from her." Hermione spat.

"Miss Granger, i am warning you.. if you speak to me in that tone again I swear to Merlin I will hex your frizzy haired, buck toothed arse all the way back to your pathetic muggle world."

"If you ever cared for Lil you will do what's right. Professor." Hermione tried in a slightly gentler tone. A slight hint of sarcasm added as her blood boiled.
She rose from the desk and headed towards the door as he stood fuming at her audacity.

She turned back only to add one thing..

"It's not all about you."
