"Why were you brought up in the muggle world when you are a half blood?" Hermione asked, she couldn't understand Liliana's circumstances.. to her it was rather peculiar.
"I'm a pure blood, not a half blood. I don't know why, all I know is that my parents said it wasn't safe here. That's why they left." Liliana explained.

"And yet your father has returned and found work at the ministry?" Harry wondered. "Pretty much, yes. I know that it doesn't make sense.. believe me I'm just as confused. I can see why they don't think it's safe here what with he who shall not be named returning, but..."

"What? But what?" Hermione gulped, "well, if it's so unsafe.. why did they want to come back?" Liliana gulped.

Harry nodded, whilst Hermione just remained puzzled. "It's strange... surely there is a perfectly normal explanation. Have you asked your mum and dad?"

"No, the subject has always been out of bounds, I just do as I'm asked. All I know is that they must have their reasons for returning.. you see my father is the type of man who doesn't make decisions lightly."

Liliana made her way up to her bed, she was exhausted after scrubbing every shelve in Snape's potions store, and all after a long day of classes too. Once she was out of ear shot Hermione took a seat next to Harry, shuffling over to him so they could talk.

"What do you make of all this?" She sighed, "I can't make it out, but I know one thing is for sure... I'm going to find out what it is one way or another."
Hermione narrowed her eyes at Harry, as if to ask 'what are you plotting?'.

"Relax, I'm not going to get us into trouble in anyway, besides I wouldn't want to upset Lily." Harry blushed, "You like her don't you?! Oh, you do! I can see it!" Hermione giggled knowingly, winking at Harry.

"Stop it! I hardly know the girl Herms.. I just like being around her that's all." Harry groaned defensively. "Mmm hmmm.." Hermione smirked, disappearing out of the common room. "Wait! Where are you going? It's well after..... curfew...." Harry tried, but he was too late. Granger had gone.

"Miss Granger! what a pleasant surprise. Although, you shouldn't be out at this hour." Dumbledore mused as he welcomed Hermione into his office.

"Sorry Professor, it's just.. well I have some things on my mind you see. And if I'm honest I'd just like someone to talk to." The wild haired witch smiled, the headmaster nodded in understanding and coaxed her to continue.

"It's about Liliana Valance sir, something seems to not add up with her." Hermione explained, "Miss Granger, I assumed you would be firm friends with Miss Valance.. she is such a lovely girl." The headmaster smiled.
"Oh, she is! It's just her story doesn't quite add up and I'm not sure why."

"I see, and what has she said that you are having difficulties understanding?" Dumbledore asked, pushing his bowl of sweets towards Hermione. She shook her head and smiled at his gesture, "Her parents are pure blood's right?"

"No, they are half bloods my dear." He chuckled, before clearing his throat. "But she told us that they're pure bloods." Hermione explained, she watched as the headmaster shifted in his seat.

"I apologise Miss Granger, I'm getting older and my mind isn't what it once was.. They are pure bloods!" Dumbledore chuckled playfully, trying to diffuse the situation. Hermione didn't know who was telling the truth, Both Liliana's and Dumbledores behaviours were a little off.

"Well, I'm glad we got that all cleared up!" She lied, bidding the headmaster a good evening and scurrying away.

"What are you doing our of bed girl?" A voice croaked from behind her. It was Filtch.
"I... I was talking to Dumbledore Mr Filtch." She explained, as the wretched man's stench assaulted her nostrils.

"Hmmm, a likely story. I have my eye on you." He hissed, "I hope Mrs Norris is feeling better.. I'd better be on my way." Hermione stammered, leaving the caretaker stood there gurning.
