Clara and I were the last one's left in the engineering lab. It was nearing ten at night, but we weren't even close to finished. Our final project of the year was due in two weeks, and we had barely even started working on it. We had to build a machine that could complete a daily task for a human. Basically, a robot.
Of course, focusing on the project is much too boring. As we worked, we came up with a game.
"Okay, my turn," Clara grinned, "Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman."
I gazed up at her, "Seriously?"
"You have to answer."
"I don't really want to."
"Too bad."
I groaned, "Fine, um, I'd marry Wonder Woman, kiss Superman, and kill Batman."
If Bruce heard me say that, he would kill me. Of course, I didn't mean it. If anything, I would kill Superman, but that would mean kissing Bruce, which was beyond disgusting.
"My turn," I grinned, "Batman, Nightwing, and Batgirl."
Clara laughed, "Easy, I'd marry Nightwing, kiss Batman, and kill Batgirl."
"I'm not entirely sure how to feel about that," I replied, "I thought you'd marry Batgirl."
"She's cool and all, but have you seen Nightwing's glorious gluteus?"
"Okay!" I exclaimed, "That's enough of that!"
When I got home, I would have to pour bleach in my ear in order to get that mental image erased. Clara cackled loudly. I pushed my goggles down on my eyes, and began to weld two metal pieces together.
After about ten minutes of welding, Clara tapped on my shoulder, "Babe, someone's calling you. Um, Badass Ginger?"
"That would be Babs," I laughed, taking the phone from Clara.
She giggled slightly. I answered the phone, pushing the speaker under the straps of my goggles. It held itself there, meaning my hands were free.
"Hiya, Babs, what's up?" I asked.
"What are you doing?"
I lifted an eyebrow, "Working in the lab with Clara trying to finish our project. Is something wrong?"
"I finished the search," she replied, "It took a lot, I had to hack into Social Services, but I finally got it."
"Got what?"
"I found the orphanage your biological parents dropped you in," Barbara replied, "I can't get any further, but if you go there, you might be able to find physical records."
I nearly dropped my torch. I didn't think Barbara would actually be able to find it, but, if anyone could, it would be her.
"Barbara, you're amazing! I love you so much!" I exclaimed.
I could practically hear her smug grin, "I know."
"Where is it?"
"A convent in Agia, Greece," Barbara replied, "There's a flight leaving tomorrow morning. You can fly to a nearby city and take the train to Agia."
"Barbara, you're the best!"
"I know. I'm sending you the link to the tickets."
I quickly rushed to my laptop. Opening it, I saw that Barbara had emailed me the link. The tickets weren't cheap, but they weren't overly expensive.
"Thank you, Babs, I owe you one," I said.
"I'll put it on the list."
She hung up after that. I took to purchasing the tickets. A weight was added to my back, telling me that Clara was leaning on me, "What was that all about?"
"Barbara can do anything with a computer," I told her, "She's been helping me figure out where I came from, and she did."
Clara gazed over my shoulder, "You're from Greece?"
"Apparently. There's a plane leaving at three tomorrow morning. I'm going to be on it."
Clara watched me tap away on the laptop. After a few seconds, she asked, "Can I come?"
"You want to come to a run down town in Greece?" I asked, "Why?"
"Emotional support. Who knows what you'll find there, having your girlfriend with you might help."
I smiled, she was right. I added a second ticket. The computer beeped, telling me the transaction went through. A broad smile crossed my face.
"Greece, here we come."
