I slurped on the juice as I listened to my friends' gossip about Jee Jae Ahn: our school's most popular guy. "...and then he told her to get lost because she had cheated on him, you know? And obviously, Chi Eun Kook didn't listen to him and she continued to beg and tell him to not break up with her. How pathetic." Bo Ra said as she completely ignored the plate of salad and chicken in front of her. She was glaring at all six of us with big brown eyes, expecting an extreme reaction."She really did like him a lot," Jeong said nervously, as she munched on some potato chips.
"But she should have some self-respect," Hye Ri said, her head resting on her palm, and her gaze directed towards Bora, as she nodded righteously.
"It's not that big a deal..." I added, looking into the book I was holding and trying to block my friend's out. My other Lee Hye Ri laughed through her noodles as I said those words out loud.
"Not that big a deal? Are you kidding me?" Na Ri said as she looked around the canteen, lowering her voice then, so as to not draw attention, "I've heard that he broke up with Eunkook because his eyes are set on another Eun..." 6 pairs of eyes turned to me as I scoffed.
"That's not true," I countered, my voice faltering as I failed to make eye contact with any of them. I was the other Eun.
"Don't lie through your teeth," Young said as she removed the one earphone she had been wearing the entirety of lunch and looked at me with curiosity.
"You know it's not true. Rumors rarely are," I said with a lot more confidence than I felt. I checked my watch, and spoke up once again, "I need to get to class, bye guys." I tapped Lee Hye Ri before I left, who had been too busy devouring her noodles to even speak up, and she nodded.
"I'll see you guys later," I waved, and began walking slowly towards class.
"This rumor is true, Park Eun In," Bora screamed as I left the canteen. A few people turned to face me but looked away, confused.
I hoped it wasn't. I kept my fingers crossed in both my jacket pockets and even closed my eyes and chanted a prayer. I visited the bathroom before I climbed the last floor to class. I looked at myself in the mirror and twisted the ends of my long brown hair on my finger. My cheeks were still stained red with embarrassment I had suffered in the canteen. I sighed, as I pulled my hair into a ponytail and straightened the bangs I had cut myself.
"Hey, Eun In Park," I heard someone say as they entered the bathroom. It was the last person I wanted to see right now: Chi Eunkook.
"Oh, hello," I said as I bowed my head and made a move to exit the washroom before things got too awkward.
"You...you..." She said with deep anger in her voice. I felt as if she had spent a long time pondering about what to say to me.
"I need to get to class," I tell her, moving around her to finally reach the exit. She blocks my path with a side step and continues to give me a death glare.
"If you even say one word to Jae, I will personally find you and kill you." She said, her words having an extra bite to them as a tear slipped from her eye.
"I don't want to talk to your boyfriend," I said, as sternly as I could manage. I actually didn't and this was especially why, this mess of a girl standing in front of me. Every time I did, another girl would either cry in front of me, threaten to kill me or hate me. I didn't like being in this position at all.
I didn't know what else to say to her, so I gave her a tight-lipped smile and exited, leaving her in the washroom, crying like a newborn baby.
I scratched my head and stopped at my locker to grab the book I needed: Psychology 101.
"Hey, Eun," I heard the familiar, deep voice boom across the hallway. I ignored it, closed the locker, and quickly walked towards the stairs. I closed my eyes as I ran up the stairs two at a time. I was too slow, however, because he caught up with my before I reached the stairs, and he pulled me back by the elbow.
"Leave me alone," I said through my teeth as I removed my hand from his grasp. I turned again, walking up the stairs before he could say anything more.
"I need to talk to you. Do you hear me, Eun?" I was pretending not to, shaking my head as I turned the corner. I didn't know him. I didn't know him. A lot of people had gathered in the corridor by now and I was getting odd looks as I passed through the corridor of the school with an attractive boy trailing me. Not only was he known for his looks, he was respected for his musical and lyrical abilities. He was a star.
"I don't care. Please, go." I said with finality in my tone. I stopped, turned and banged into someone. I blinked to clear the confusion from my brain and looked up at the tall girl.
"I am so sorry," I said, as I backed away. She seemed to be new. She had smooth, pale skin, and a nice bob cut which suited her face. The uniform fit her well and she looked like she played some kind of sport. She had on a pair of huge, nerd glasses. I realized that the odd looks may not have been for me at all.
"It's okay. Can I ask why you want me to leave, though?" She asked jokingly, tilting her head and raising her eyebrows at my confused expression.
"Oh, I wasn't telling you...I thought you were someone else." I said, smiling sheepishly. I extended my hand and introduced myself.
"Oh Seong,"She said as she smiled at me as well.
"Can you help me out? I don't know where Psychology is; I have been searching for half an hour, now." She said, looking at her schedule and then back at me helplessly.
"That's great! I have psychology too." I said, raising my backpack higher and asking her to follow me.
