Here's a bit of background for their current lives. Don't worry, there will be more!

"Uh..." New Zealand picked up a piece of paper.
"Guys! I think the goddess wants to give us a break, every now and then!" He read the letter aloud.
"There will be times when you will see moments from their current lives. Such as now."
Scotland took the remote from the desk and pressed play.

The Roman Empire had been so powerful that he conquered even countries from Northern Europe.
"Albion!" a brown haired boy ran up to his friend, hazel eyes bright and happy. "Have you eaten yet?" He'd been taking language lessons with the other child for a few weeks now.
"Not yet!" The blonde haired boy answered from where he was perched in the tree. "Have you?" They'd been sharing each other's language for long enough that they could have a conversation using both at the same time. "Let's eat together~" was the happy reply to the question.
The blond looked down, emerald green eyes filled with contentment and fondness. "I'm coming down, then!" The boy easily jumped down the branch. "Ve! Albion! Your robe has a tear!" The blonde looked at the hem of his white robe, noting that it was, in fact, torn.
"It's fine. It just got caught in the branches." He looked up again. He had to blink a few times before his mind caught up with what he was seeing. The brunette wore a light brown dress. "You look like a girl, Vene!" He said with a gasp.
"Everyone keeps talking about how we're both boys and we shouldn't be together as often as we are... so I thought, if one of us looked like a girl... they won't judge us anymore..."
Albion closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "You mustn't listen to them, Vene. They just hate that we're happy when they're not." "So you don't like how I look?" Green eyes widened at the fragile tone of voice. "Of course I do! You could be wearing a kilt, for all that matters, and you would still look like an angel to me!"
A bright blush spread across the blond's face as he registered what he just said. The brunette looked up at him with a wide, bright smile. "Thank you, Albion!"

Long ago, Switzerland and Austria were close allies. They often helped each other out as much as they could.
"Hah... Switzerland...?" A blond haired child turned to the speaker. The child's jade green eyes blinked at the other's state. "What happened? Who did this?" The black haired child just smiled weakly at him, violet eyes trailing to the side. "I got into a scuffle with Prussia..."
The blond stomped his foot, his white hunter's robe swaying at the action. "I swear, Austria! I will get him back for you, one of these days!" He gingerly held the other's bruised cheek in his hands. "Let's get this taken care of first. Then, if you want, you can watch me beat him up."
Austria chuckled at the promise. He then looked up. Through the canopy of the forest, he could see the clear sky. His smile wavered as he clenched hid hands. "I must look weak right now..." he said, hands clutching onto the sleeves of his own robe. "You're not." Switzerland spoke in a factual way.
"I don't care what he's told you. You're not weak. Strength isn't measured by winning and losing. You're talented in music. That's your strength and passion. He's just mad because he can only play the flute. You, on the other hand, can play lots of instruments. Plus, you have a wonderful voice to accompany said instruments."
"Thanks, Swiss. I needed that."
"Obviously. Now, where is that idiot?"

When the British Empire began, England had wanted just one country to unify with him. However, circumstances were not in his favor.
"I want Veneziano to be a part of my empire." He stood before his Queen, arms crossed over his chest. "That's the one favor I asked of you from the beginning. Please let me be with him."
The Queen finally relented and allowed England to travel to Austria, the nation who had won the Italian Wars.He would have taken Veneziano with him and spared his friend all the pain if he were allowed to...
Once there, however, he saw how happy Veneziano was with Holy Rome. "He misses you a lot." Austria had told him. "As long as he doesn't get hurt, then I don't mind where he is or who he spends time with. I can tell he's happy here... with him."
England left before Veneziano could see him.
Austria's head nearly met the wall.

"Did you know about that?" Ireland asked his brother. Scotland only stayed quiet, wondering how he could have missed all that.
Hungary was surprised at the closeness between Austria and Switzerland. She knew they'd been allies before she united with him, but she had no idea how close they were.
Romano's face met the desk as he groaned. "I'm an idiot!" "Don't say that, Roma. You didn't-" "Veneziano was an empire for two centuries. He always said he wanted to unite with someone and that he felt it was the only way..."
Belgium closed her mouth, shocked at the revelation.
"Twenty minute break." Scotland said before walking outside.
