*Kaylani POV*
I walk out into the bleak dark night with my purse over my shoulder and phone in my hand. I immediately spot Cody, standing outside of his red Camri with both hands in his pockets. He looks up at me and smiles, jerking his head signaling me to jump in. Without hesitating, I walk over to the parked vehicle as Cody opens the passenger door like a true gentleman. I sit inside the car and buckle my seatbelt as Cody made his way around the car over to the driver's side.
"How was work?" He kindly asks as he buckles himself up.
"It was good. Nothing special." I reply.
"I'm glad you accepted to come out with me. I really thought I freaked you out or something." He shyly remarks.
"No no. It's my pleasure to be here actually. I think I might actually need it."
"You're going to have a good time, just see." He says as he begins to drive away.
The night was still young, as cars drifted through the streets and people began to appear. I began to absorb the beauty and authenticity of the city as much as I can. I was still in awe because of this great city. I got lost in the passing lights, music, and atmosphere. My mind was a roaming child, free from the adversities that life imposes on us. Cody was quiet along the entire way. I would glance at him every now and then but he would simply stay focused on the road. I found it adorable how he tried to hide his nervousness. I could tell by the way he breathed and how his fingers would tap on the steering wheel as he drove.
When we arrived at the coffee shop, the vintage modern look gave me a sense of home for some reason. When we walked inside, the fresh smell of cocoa beans being roasted made my nose orgasm. I was instantly brought to a state of relaxation and ease.
"What do you want bella?" Cody asked as his olive eyes pierced through me.
"Umm, I'll have a cappuccino." I shyly state.
"Alright, go get us a seat, I'll get our drinks." He asked.
I smile and nod at him as I turn around to find us a table. Luckily, there was not that many people here. I sat down on a chair as I stared through the window. The night was intriguing. A bit of me was nervous for I still hadn't known Cody, but I felt like I could trust him. The rhythm of his words were comforting, almost as if he were hugging me as he spoke. There was not many things to not like about him yet. He was a gentleman, confident, shy, and extremely handsome. I tried to focus on myself, allowing the hurt within me go to sleep while I stayed awake. Deep down, however, Leonardo was forever stained on my heart. I began to worry that I would never be able to get over him. The thought challenged me to prove myself wrong. I needed to be happy for me. I needed to give my heart the chance to love and be loved. I am worthy of love. I'm going to try again.
