Please sympathise that this is my first published fan fiction ever, so it might be a little rusty. I'm sorry if I've left any spelling mistakes or typos unchecked! Thank you and enjoy! ;)
A quick note, this is set after the end of the game.
"Fenris?" Hawke asks, her breath hitching nervously. She paced back and forth in front of the fireplace, feeling Fenris' eyes boring into her back. She was in another situation where she wished her hair was longer, like a soft curtain that hides her expression so people would stop reading her thoughts like an open book. Unfortunately, even though she was a mage, she was pretty sure there was no hair growth spell. She did actually grow it out once, but it got singed off when she tried to cast a fireball. She had undoubtedly learnt her lesson, but that didn't mean she didn't like being so easy to read.
"Yes, Hawke?" Fenris had been watching her for at least five minutes now, worry tearing at his mind. The way Hawke refused to talk about what was bothering her in public, the way she insisted that she talked to him in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep, was unnerving. He had truly begun to believe she had murdered someone, or something as equally dramatic. He hadn't seen Anders for a while, perhaps she regretted letting him live, and decided to remedy that problem. If that was true, then he respected Hawke's decision. He was almost about to do it for her. She suddenly stopped pacing, and looked deep into his eyes.
"I was thinking... About us," Hawke admitted, her expression sheepish. she didn't know why, but she was expecting some kind of rejection, one way or another.
"What about us?" Fenris asked curiously, slightly disappointed that the world wasn't rid of that irritating mage. Yet.
"Well, with Knight Commander Meredith and Orsino dead as door nails, I was wondering about the future." She explained, fiddling nervously with her gauntlet.
Fenris was confused. What was she talking about? What do two dead insane leaders have to do with them? Was she talking about what side he was on? Fenris cared for politics as much as Isabella cared for wearing pants. It was pointless.
"Where do you think this relationship is going?" Hawke clarified when she saw his adorable confused face.
"I am unsure what has to come next," He told her simply. It was the truth. He had no experience with love before Hawke came along, and so every day was new to him. To be honest, he was actually content at the place they were at now, and felt no need to change. Although, he did hate it when Hawke openly states that he is her 'boyfriend' and she is his 'girlfriend'. Even the word 'courting' makes him cringe.
"Don't you remember Aveline and Donnic's wedding?" She says, eyebrows raised. Of course he remembered, it was one of the most horrific experiences of his life (After running away from Denarius). He had to shed his armour, and was expected to wear a uncomfortable black suit, and for the first time ever, a pair of shoes. Saying he stumbled around everywhere that day would be an understatement. In fact, he actually tripped, and was thankfully caught by Hawke before he landed face first into Lady Elegant's cleavage. Varric still torments him about that.
"I don't think Varric would let me forget it even if I could," Fenris grumbled, secretly pleased he received a giggle when Hawke recalled Lady Elegant's expression.
"Well?" Hawke asked expectantly. It took a moment for it to all click in Fenris' head. Why hadn't he thought of that, when it was so blatantly obvious?
"You wish us to marry?" Fenris was gobsmacked, his jaw felt like it hit the ground below. He always knew Hawke loved him, she made sure she reminded him everyday, but it never crossed his mind that she wanted him forever. Being an elf, he would always age slower than her, so it was unexpected to him that she want something so long term. She did not answer, but only looked at him with a massive grin, like she was waiting for him to do something. He knew what.
Fenris' stomach churned as he got down on one knee hesitantly. He took her hands in his and he watched tears roll slowly down her rosy cheeks. He held back a smirk as he looked at her. Her expression was just like Danarius' when the ship slowly exited the bay in Serherron, when he had to leave his prize possession behind. Priceless
"Miriam Hawke," Fenris began slowly, trying to swallow the lump in his throat.
"Will you do me the great honour of marrying us in the eyes of the Maker? I have no ring to gift you, so I offer you my heart, and the promise that I will love you until we die and beyond. I give you my sword, may it shield you against your foes. I give you my eyes, may they watch over you always. I give you my life, may it be there to spare yours if need be. No injury, heartbreak nor demon will end my love for you." Hawke was practically sobbing, luckily, tears of joy. It took all of her strength to stop herself from jumping up and down on the spot, or kissing him before he got a chance to finish. Both were rude, she thought, so she held back politely.
"Yes," She managed to choke out through the wave of tears as millions of emotions threatened to consume her.
Gently, as if she was a soft and fragile petal floating in the wind, Fenris let go of her hands, but placed his on the sides of her face. He pulled her in for a long, tender kiss, that sent her heart thrumming like a hummingbird's wings, and lyrium pulsed frantically through Fenris' veins. For that perfect moment, no one else mattered. I was just them, wrapped up in their own little world.
When their lips parted, his moved to her ear as he whispered-
"The wedding? Do what you like. But I am not, wearing any kind of shoes whatsoever."
Thank you for reading, an I hope you enjoyed it! If so, or if not, please comment your thoughts or suggestions! I might think about continuing this little story soon, if you want me to, then comment anything you would like to be included! ;)
