Chapter five
Stage: Hostility and Deceit
I awoke once I hacked and spat out water. Where did that come from? Once again I shut my eyes to hear a few voices.
" Is he okay?"
" Yeah he's breathing"
" He's lucky you spotted him on time"
" Could you keep it down I'm trying to sleep" I pointed out. " You're welcome" huffed a male voice.
" You all can leave and not listen to him anymore thank you"
" Lucky bastards" announced a female voice with a slight accent. Nante !
" Come on Troy let's get out of here" she said.
" Where are we going?"
" Back to the truck, up we go " she replied as she hauled me up from the sleeper.
" What are you talking about we're in the truck I don't wanna leave I want to stay in the truck" I told her.
" Well that explains why you fell into the lake,Troy you're drunk aren't you?" She asked before I began to laugh.
♢•♢•♢The scarf slapped me across the face as I wound it around my neck which I frowned at while I slung my backpack handle over my shoulders.
" Troy" barked Vixen outside from the hallway. " Out of all the truck drivers in the state I got harpy" I grumbled.
" If she's so evil then why are you on this trip with her?" chuckled Evan at his bed.
" Because she's my only ride to Houston" I answered before I shook his hand goodbye.
" Man you know you can hear me " she exclaimed at the door. A gentle call to remind me we have to leave at seven thirty sharp who wouldn't love this weirdo?
I went around her and strolled to the parking lot where the truck was.
It dawned on me it was Vixen with the keys yet it was my turn to drive.
A smile crept up on my face when she arrived I had to hack a cough to hid it.
" The keys...please" I requested to her stare. " You'll get the keys when we are off the road again" her voice emerged from her nearly masked face.
After the swing and miss of the door from Vixen's murder attempt I climbed into the truck pulling the scarf away from my face.
To regret instantly I was just about to turn on the heat only to get my hand swatted away.
" Ow"
" No heat it wastes gas" Cheapskate!
" When am I driving ?" I blurted replied by an indignant look.
" I just told you when we're off the road again"
" But-" I shut up when the degree of the stare rose up. " Off the road got it" I repeated.
I sunk in my seat and watched the cars pass by while honk at us a lot.
" You're not going to do anything?" I asked." Who said I didn't" she replied her eyes fixed on the road, there's a way her eyes feel warm in this clement climate actually her whole face look...
bright! This was freaking me out so I looked out the window again at that moment we took the expressway to the back road that looked a lot like Uncle Jack's farm.
