Chapter 6~ Danielle
It truly is a shame that this whole alien apocalypse had to happen. If it hadn't I feel like I would've enjoyed having a normal life with these people. As we sat in Mr.Halinski's house, which was just short of being a museum on all the wars we Americans have fought in due to all his artifacts, it felt like a normal day of hanging out with friends. Ryder has calmed down quite a bit and has loosened up into being the idiot he was before all of this. AJ was actually more of a leader then is expect, he was doing a great job keeping his head on. Mr.Halinski is officially the coolest science teacher I have ever had, plus he's had a pretty awesome past. And Joy, well I just know she'd be my best friend that I'd tell my crushes to and all that other teenage girl stuff if we were still normal high school kids.
All in all, I don't mind having them as who I have to rely on during a alien apocalypse. I mean I'd really love having anyone from Independence Day or The Expendables here but beggars can't be choosers I guess.
We packed things up in small bags, basically anything we could find that would be easy to carry. We got enough food and water to last us for a few along with other supplies like flashlights. And do not even get me started on the guns and other weapons my science teacher had. My father would greatly appreciate all of this.
"I'm going to go out on the limb here and say you're a pretty big supporter of the second amendment?" I asked Mr.Halinski. He handed AJ some ammo to put in his pocket before smiling up at me.
"Don't get him started unless you don't want him to stop." Joy warned before Mr.Halinski could say something.
"My dad would love this." I marvelled at all the supplies and ran my hand over some of them. I ended up picking up a semi-automatic pistol that was practically identically from my dads. It was a required weapon for someone to carry if they were in the Secret Service like he was.
"I'd be careful with that if I were you." AJ noted as he watched me handle the gun.
"Why? Do you think I can't handle myself around guns?" I asked with raised eyebrows. I knew what I needed to about guns and combat, and any other thing my dad found necessary to teach me. Let's just say, my dad had really wanted me to be a boy and tended to forget that I wasn't one.
"Well I mean...." AJ trailed off as he looked at me, probably realizing I wasn't some helpless damsel in distress.
"This," I began to explain as I loaded the gun and smiled as I heard it emit a familiar click. "Is a FN five-seven and I'm willing to bet that if I'm going to make it any longer in this hell it's going to be because of this baby."
"You've just managed to be cooler then Meghan Fox." Ryder said with an impressed look on his face.
I shrugged as I pocketed some more supplies and messed with a small Swiss Army knife. "Don't expect me to know anything else though, that's almost all my dad taught me about, pistols."
I subconsciously frowned as I thought of my dad. He would know what to do in a time like this, he'd know how to survive. God I hate myself for fighting with him all those times. Why did I have to be such an annoying teenager? I mean my dad is getting older too, life wasn't ever being any kinder to him.
"Danielle, you okay?" Joy asked gently as she walked over to me. I looked up at my friend and nodded.
"Yeah I'm just remembering my family, you know?" I asked.
Joy nodded understandingly. "Yeah, I was actually just thinking about my brother. We used to go paint balling together all the time and this kind of brought back all of those memories."
"You think we're going to see them again?" I asked quietly. This was a touchy subject for all of us and we hadn't really talked about it yet.
"I think all we can do is hope that we will." Joy answered. I nodded my head in agreement as I looked back at the weapons.
