In the 8th Century AD, a girl is taken from her home village in the south of the Arabian peninsula to the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca.
There, she is sold to a pilgrimage caravan en route to the capital of Baghdad.
There, she meets Al-Mahdi, the successor to the Abbasid throne.
There, he falls in love with her.
There, she becomes his queen.
This is the story of Al-Khayzuran bint Atta, and how she rose from a slave girl, to the most powerful Muslim queen in history.
