Sleep was nothing less than a foreign concept to Harry. After all, when your crew has only so many hours in a day to think up your next evil plot, staying up past "bedtime" was ideal. Plus, who would stop him on the Isle? His father surely didn't care; to him, any body of water was home to the infamous crocodile that had preyed upon him once before. So, as long as Harry was on Uma's ship, he was immune to bedtimes. After all, evil never slept.

Now that he was in Auradon, everything was a foreign concept. Even so much as having someone holding a door open for him sent his mind reeling and wondering why such a simple gesture was unheard of on the Isle. He couldn't sleep now when there was so much of Auradon Prep to explore either. He'd never seen such an immaculate school before; Dragon Hall was distasteful by any standard. By now, it had to have been about 2 in the morning, and Gil was asleep back in their room.

It didn't seem like anything could cause him to stir; ever since Gil developed a sleeping schedule, thats all he ever wanted to do. Nothing would wake him, which was good news for Harry.

The tile outside of the carpeted dorms was cold to the touch, an icy reminder that everyone else lay dormant in their rooms. The thought of sneaking around, even if it just meant a little harmless late night exploring, excited Harry. He slipped down the dark corridor, following a dim light that glowed a little brighter around every bend. The light led him to the main lobby, which was decidedly too far and less than exciting.

Harry turned on his heels and started down a new path, one that led into a hallway he hadn't been before. It was a bit warmer than the rest; a good change in the midst of autumn. Unlike the lobby, this corridor was aglow only by the pale moonlight, opalescent and steady as he counted his steps.

A soft gasp around the corner cause him to freeze in a tracks, edging himself against the wall until the source was apparent. Under the milky glow of moonlight shone a head of sapphire that dipped down, a frail body hunched over in the corner of the hidden chamber. The gasp was followed by a series of unsupressed sobs, painful and harrowing as they must have been to the girl.

Evie.

Harry's heart fell to his stomach immediately as he practically watched her crumble before his eyes. In a short time, he'd formed a bond with Evie that he'd never had with anyone, even Uma. What started as a series of playful teasing grew to be a deeper connection than either could have imagined. The only thing keeping him from sweeping the blue-haired princess off her feet was her boyfriend, Doug. While they appeared to have a lot in common at the surface, with nearly identical values and interests, Harry knew that he was right for her. He was the only one who knew the real her, and could cherish her in a way that she deserved.

He approached her apprehensively, careful to not make any sudden movements or noises. Sneaking around on the Isle came with its perks, after all.

Harry layed a hand on her shoulder, surprised to find that she didn't flinch at his touch. Her heavy breathing slowed down for a moment as she raised her head, locking her hazel eyes with his, which were now deep, blue pools of concern. Her lashes were fringed with tears now as she broke again, dipping her head back down in sorrow.

"What's wrong?" he whispered, scooting back against the wall next to her, rubbing her back gingerly.

She sniffled, staying silent for a moment as the sound of cicadas outside filled the void between them. Harry bit his lip as he waited, and, after a minute, began to slowly stand up. "I-I can just go, if you want..."

"No! Please... stay..." Evie cried out. Harry's eyes widened, and instantly returned to his seat on the ground.

Evie went silent again, her breathing hitched and jagged. Finally, her voice chimed in, fragile and broken. "I-It's Doug..."

Harry narrowed his eyes. "What did he do?"

Evie's eyes darted around the room, fighting back a fresh stream of tears. "H-h-he.... b-broke up with m-me..

Harry's face softened a bit. "What? Really?" He wrinkled his nose. "Why the hell'd he do that?"

Evie swallowed painfully. "H-he said that I was becoming a distraction... and that..." She trailed off, sniffling before laughing hollowly into the darkness. "He thinks I've changed since you got here. That you bring out the worst in me."

Harry felt a lump form in his throat. He could love Evie as much as he wanted to, but did she see him as a burden now? He was, inevitably, the core reason that the love of her life broke up with her it seemed.

He stayed silent for a moment, biting back a thousand apologies. All he could manage was a meek, "I'm so sorry, E'..."

She shook her head instantly, to his surprise. "No... don't be..." She composed herself a bit, sitting up straighter against the wall. "He's right. I have changed since you got here."

Harry looked up at her, his eyes full of agony and regret. He had just ruined a big, no, huge part of her life and hadn't even realized it. He opened his mouth to respond, but Evie continued.

"I have, but in the best way possible." She laughed hollowly again, a bit of a sincere smile tugging at her lips. "Why can't he see how happy you make me? Hell, I even thought Mal was being a drama queen, saying that the pressure was breaking her... but it was true. I can't be a perfect princess of Auradon like Doug wanted me to be." She looked up, her eyes finally dried of tears. "But you don't care. You couldn't care less if I study all night or mind my manners." She leaned a bit onto his arm, taking a deep breath. "You've always loved me for me."

Harry simply started down at Evie for a moment, admiring the way she melted into him, as if he felt like home to her. Under her touch, even he felt like a prince.

He chuckled lightly. "Evie, you know you've always been a princess to me."

She sniffled and sat up at this, her hazel eyes piercing into his with a newfound light. "Harry... I..." Within seconds, she'd leaned over, tipping her head up and pressing her lips gently to his, as if being careful not to hurt him.  Harry sunk deeper into the kiss, as if he were plummeting into the depth of the ocean. Waves of electricity and warmth encircled him, and they each broke apart to catch their breath after a moment's time.

Harry blinked down, amazed. "Evie... wow..."

She blushed up at him, returning the gesture with a sincere giggle. "Sorry. I just..." She smoothed out her skirt. "I just always wanted to do that."

Harry smirked and pulled her closer under his arm. "I take it you feel better now?"

Evie sighed and nodded, curling up under him. "You know I can always count on my favorite boy to make me feel better. That's why I love you." There was silence for a moment before she snapped her head up, face as red as an apple. "I- I mean-"

Harry leaned down, shushing her gently before planting a gentle kiss on her lips again, hugging her tightly.

"It's okay E'. I love you too."
