You looked out against the horizon, the gentle spray of the ocean hitting your cheeks as the sun beamed down over your make-shift workstation. All around you were planks of wood, some cut in odd shapes, and other massively bigger than you were. You closed your eyes, drawing yourself to focus. So, your mother had the benefit of her boats already built for her; but here in Auradon, not everything came for free, aside from an abundance of wooden planks.

It was a beautiful day, nevertheless, and a perfect day for your first attempt at building a raft. You wouldn't exactly consider yourself crafty, but it would keep you preoccupied. It was nice to clear your mind, and all your friends were way too busy lately anyways.

Surprisingly, after an hour or so of hard work, you had a pretty stable base going, storage compartments included. You smiled to yourself, a satisfied sigh following. The tides rolled in lazily, and the sun was descending into the night slowly. You hadn't even noticed the time pass you by, but it was decidedly time to wrap it up. You knew you had a little time before curfew, so you mentally began planning a self celebration to cap off the night. However, a husky voice broke through your thoughts.

"What's that? Wait, no... don't tell me! You're building a ship and you're planning to take down Uma with your crew!"

You whipped around and came face to face with none other than Gil, the son of Gaston, holding a surfboard. You raised your eyebrows; this was a member of one of the most "feared crews on the Isle"? In fact, he was third in command. You'd have put it past him; from what you could tell in English class, he was a bit of an airhead. Still, there was something about his naive demeanor that was... well, sweet.

You blushed. "No. It's a raft. I want to... uh..." You cleared your throat and gestured  out to sea. "Explore." You looked down at your feet, mentally scolding yourself for getting flustered. After all, it was just Gil, but for whatever reason, you found yourself scraping your brain for any memories you had involving him.

Gil grinned. "Nice." He held the surfboard out in front of him. "I'm gonna be doing some exploring too, I guess," he laughed. "It was kind of hard to practice in crocodile infested water back home, so don't make fun of me if I suck."

You laughed. "I was actually heading out now," you explained.

He immediately pouted, to your surprise. "Aw, what? Stay! Just a minute. Keep me company."

You bit your lip, your gaze fixating on the sunset over the horizon. You glanced back at him. "Fine, but only because its getting dark, and I wouldn't want you to be out here alone."

Gil grinned. "Awesome." He stood there for a moment, smiling cheekily. "Y'know, I'm always so scared to approach you, 'cause you're so pretty, but I don't know what I was worried about!" He shrugged to himself and bounded off into the water, leaving you flushed and a little speechless. "Did he really just admit that?" you wondered to yourself.

You sat near the edge of the water, watching as Gil failed miserabley to ride the waves to first few times before getting the hang of it. He'd look back at you everytime he was up and stable, flashing you a proud grin. You returned it with a laugh each time, finding yourself more and more infatuated with him by the second. Every moment seemed to be flying by so fast; suddenly, it was pitch black outside, and the water was illuminated only by the pale, milky moonlight. Gil stepped out of the water and bounded back over to where you sat, seemingly out of breath. He crouched down and laughed.

"Those waves were crazy!" he laughed.

You smiled and laughed lightly. "Yeah? I bet my mom could tame them."

He folded his legs and smiled, turning toward the moonlight. "I bet you could, too."

You wrinkled your nose and shook your head, smiling. "Nah. She was the chosen one."

"Well..." he began slowly. "When you finally decide to break out that raft, let me know. I'll get my surfboard and we can test that theory."

You raised your eyebrows, blushing a bit. "L-like a date?"

A smile broke out against his face. "Yeah, I guess. A date!" He leaned back in the sand, the smile softening contently. "A date."

"A date it is then."
